Consider the following scenario:

You start on a ten-mile trip to town with your next-door neighbor Karan. Soon it rains and you hear thunder, so you both run for your lives into nearby dark Blue Cave.

You turn on your flashlights to see numerous stalactites and stalagmites. You walk behind Karan; suddenly you hear a bloodcurdling scream coming from him. You focus your light on him, and see billions of dark bug-like things crawling from the ground to his legs all the way up to his face. He is enveloped by the insects, when you suddenly black out.

You wake up with a headache. You feel the cold dampness of the cave, and can only barely make things out in the darkness. You lost your flashlight, and look forward to see two possible routes forward. One is extremely dark and seems to have a puddle of blood at the beginning. It heads east. The other has more light, and you are sure you hear running water along the path. It heads north. What path will you choose?

It's supposed to say Captain Hero at the end, not Captain Ducky. Oops...

And maybe I should have added that after you black out, there's nothing behind you but a wall so you can't try to go backwards.

I also refer to "he" as "she" accidentally.

The purpose of the question is to deliver some sort of psychological insight into your subconscious decision calculus that might allow me to derive an extrapolation for all individuals' decision calculus. Note that this is posted in the psychology section. Just choose a path, and tell me if you think what you did on that path was just.
