Chlorine gasses out of the water proportionately to water temperature. Had any heat this summer??? Lots of folks around the country are having the same problem. Double up on tabs and shock more frequently. Consider switching to 1 inch tablets temporarily. A pound of 1 inch tabs offers a LOT more soaking surface than a pound of 3 inch tablets. That should help. Believe me, once the weather cools just a little the problem will sort itself out. It is water temperature induced.

I'm going through the same thing. I have an inground plaster pool, though, and have a heater now. I can put 1 to 2 bags of shock in it every night and after use the next day there's no free chlorine again. I think it's the water temperature. I don't know what else to do except shock it each evening so it's ready the next day.

With lots of use the chlorine level with drop. Also, in the excess heat that is around the country, chlorine levels with drop too. Take a sample to a pool chemical dealer and they will analyze it for free to tell you what is needed exactly. Good Luck
