For the same reason people wear nice clothes, comb their hair, shave their legs/face/armpits, take a bath, etc. Everyone wants to look nice in whatever way their culture/up-bringing has taught them to define that concept.

It evens out your skin tone. Enhances you eyes. I just feel I stand out more with it on. I used to manage a Merle Norman cosmetics studio. If you put the make up on with a lite hand, you can barely notice that you have it on. It also can act as a sunscreen. And as you get older you might start to see facial discoloration and other things you might want to cover up.

Makeup is used to enhance your natural beauty. Eye-liner, mascara, and eye-shadow for example are used to make your eyes "pop". (and enhance their beauty).
Foundation covers all of your blemishes up.
Lipstick or lip gloss makes your lips defined and shiny.
