I am against murder. Though under certain circumstances I think there are no other options. If someone broke into your home with the intention of killing you, what would you do? You would defend your life right? Well if the child that grows in you threatens your life, the only viable option you have is to protect your life and to abort the child. I don't really like the term abortion. It puts a technical, almost mechanical term to a very fleshy issue. Life is life is life. Just because someone can't take care of a child doesn't mean someone else can't. In the case of rape, during the medical examination the doctors should prescribe the morning-after pill to ensure that there is not an icicle's chance in hell that conception can occur. In the case of incest, if the male is an adult or can be tried as an adult, he should be locked away for life. Then, depending on the age of the female, she should be provided an explanation on what has happened and what will happen during the pregnancy and what her responsibilities will be as a mother or the process of the abortion. After a thorough explanaition she should be asked whether or not she accepts the responsibilities of motherhood.

Is this too long?

Logic won't help the uber religous folks though. After all the yelling and crying and confusion it comes down to one thing. It's the woman's body. In the end, no matter what the decision is, it is hers to make.

For the most part, yes. Because I think that complex medical procedures shouldn't be used to solve problems that can be prevented. Same reason that I'm against most elective surgery, including body sculpting. And the same reason that I don't think drugs are the answer to suppressing psychological problems that can actually be resolved (cured) with proper counseling.

But my personal beliefs are just that -- my personal beliefs. More than anything else, I think it's important that everyone be able to make those decisions for themself.

And I think the government is ill-equipped to do anything beyond making sure the people performing the procedures have proper medical training. The government is certainly not competent to make decisions about who should or should not be pregnant.

{EDIT} Question for Alexandra: where do you get the idea that the executive branch can declare anything unconstitutional? That's an exclusive function of the judicial branch. And as for violation of the 5th Amendment, what clause? It doesn't take any property, it's not a grand jury proceeding, it's not compelling someone to be a witness, or putting them on trial twice. And if you mean the Due Process clause, you've got it backwards. The Due Process clause requires notice and a hearing before the government can take away a person's liberty or other rights. That's the whole point of Substantive Due Process, which was the foundation for the decision. The government cannot preemptively take away a person's right to choose. Please at least read the constitution before badly misquoting it.

Science needs to help humans not to destroy them. Abortion is eliminating killing a fetus, it doesnt matter if its too small I believe it has spirit, soul and a body that is sacred.
If a mother doesnt want the baby for any reason she can give it to adoption, she doesnt need to kill it, in fact, some research suggest that many mothers that did abort after some months do repent, why because they knew something from their own body was taken apart, and is just not natural to cause that, at least for me doesnt make sense why someone will go to a clandestine hospital and have abortion. Thats another point why those hospitals are clandestine? isnt because they know is wrong?

Even if abortion is legal in some countries, that doesnt mean is moral.

Now, there is natural abortion where the nurses and doctor cant do anything to solve the problem, thats something is important to recall.

I justify one case of abortion, just where the Doctor has to decide between the mothers life or the fetus life and cant save both, in some situations depending on the family it could be an abortion to save the mother.

Yes, because I was basically offered no choice when I got pregnant the summer before I started college, and I never got pregnant again. So I do not have grandchildren now as a result of giving in to the pressure then.

However, while I would argue against it if a girl asked my advice, and would recommend she take seriously all other options, I am aware that ultimately, it has to be her decision. It's her body.

Everybody is quick to jump at saying you are killing a baby, although its not actually a baby until after 24wks. What is unfair is bringing up a baby into the world, when you are not ready for it. When you are unable to give it the life it deserves, and instead it gets neglected/ punished for being there. Abortion is ok if there is a genetic deformity/ poor condition of living etc.

Most definitely, because it's murder. It's a human being at conception, whether people want to realize this or not.

Furthermore, Roe is an unconstitutional ruling, as it violates the Fifth Amendment. Any president can declare Roe as null and void just like that *snaps fingers* because it's unconstitutional. Why does this issue have to be so complex? It's not!

I for one am getting sick and tired of people like Bush who are not pro-life and pretend to be just to secure the Christian vote.

I am personally against it, I would never do it. but i also believe that others are free to make that decison for themselves. I think too many people have an abortion when they were too lazy to take the precautions and not get pregnant if they were not ready for a baby. Its really so sad that so many people (like my husband and I) want another baby so much and others are disposing of babies like they are trash.

I'm on the fence with this one. I chose not to abort my baby when I became pregnant. I think that it shouldn' t be used in place of birth control. It's right for some, but not for others.
