Information overload gives us 1957.
In that year, when I was 10 years old, my father died on December 12th aged 40. During the war he had parachuted into France to work with the French resistance. On landing he met a German soldier and they shot each other. Dad was wounded in the chest near his shoulder but the French got him to the Swiss border and he managed to reach Basle where he was hospitalised. To cut a long story short he developed TB from the wound and his last 3 years were spent in hospital, 1957 was the year I stopped being a boy and became a man, even at the age of 10. I lost my Daddy and all the things that go with growing up with him.
1957 was also the year that was my last in junior school before I went to Grammar School
