It's unlike the UN will have any significant effect, because they don't have sufficient resources to step in without commitments from many other countries. And "kids, please stop fighting" really only works when there is some way to enforce it.
This war is nothing new. It's just the latest round of a conflict going back at least decades (if not millennia). And it's not going to stop until the terrorist organizations that are running counties like Syria, Palestine (Hamas) and Lebanon (sorry, Hezbollah is effectively controlling southern Lebanon at this point) are stopped.
