If you are just starting again from years of no exercise you may want to slowly get into. You will probably know how fast you can progress to heavier exercise. It is also good to get medical check-up first from doctor to get their opinion.

Haha, one of my best training buddies (we're long distance triathletes) is 42 years old. I can't keep up with the guy. So, yes, I'd count swimming, biking and running as heavy exercise. HOWEVER, each individual varies, especially taking into account fitness level and family history of medical disorders (especially cardiac-related issues). So the disclaimer to my answer: consult a physician first.

Yes. You should build up to it. Start off small and work yourself up. It would actully have very positive results for you and help you stay healthy and active despite your age.
