I have trouble understanding the logic of pro-life advocates. If it's to preserve human life, why do you support the death penalty? If it's to preserve innocent life, isn't that discrimination against the other "virtues" such as individualism and self-determination? Isn't it unfair to punish a teenager for one stupid mistake by making her have an unwanted child? Is it fair to make a woman suffer just because you think she should be having a baby? And above all, isn't it selfish to bring unwanted children into the world?
Don't try to push religion in my face on this issue; that's your problem, not mine. I'd also like to point out that the same people advocating anti-abortion regularly place budget cuts on schools and welfare programs, thus decreasing the chance of quality life for children. Life starts at conception for these people, but apparently ends at birth.

C'mon people, lets hear something other than "gods children" arguments.Unwanted children are just that, unwanted, and God isn't going to be there to provide them with a good life.

Having a baby isn't a walk in the park; women are severely disadvantaged by pregnancy, in many cases losing respect and their jobs. Why must we make a thinking, feeling being suffer in the favour of an embryo that feels and knows nothing (even though eventually it might)?

Bowtierodz is assuming quite a lot of things; that everybody gets a good sex education (something that is actually opposed by many anti-abortion groups), that pregnancy doesn't take a gigantic toll on a woman, that men will stick around, and that all sex is willing.
Embryos are not people, they just have the potential to be people. And that is not enough to grant them human status, nor is it fair to call them babies; they aren't.
As for adoption; kind christian soul that you are, I assume you've adopted some unwanted children? Or does caring for born children in our society bear no meaning to you, as you got very angry with that concept? You will force unfit mothers (and fathers, rarely present) to have kids, but refuse to provide these children with anything, stating that its the parent's responsibility. Who are you doing a favor?

Why is abortion murder?
If it's to preserve human life, why do you support the death penalty?
The death penalty and abortion are two entirely different topics, with two entirely different meanings. I support the death penalty while opposing abortion. There is a world of difference between taking the life of someone who has committed 68 rape\murders such as in the case of Gary Ridgway, and terminating the pregnancy of a baby whom has not even seen what it is like to live on earth. Trying to lump these two together is like saying apples and oranges are the same fruit, when they are not. Someone who has committed murder, or rape or is a pedophile should have their life terminated because they have demonstrated the kind of anti-social behavior that shows a contempt for life and the laws of society. Clearly, such a person could not be rehabilitated and released back in to society and expect to be productive law abiding citizens. You can not make the same assertion about a baby whom has not yet been born.
If it's to preserve innocent life, isn't that discrimination against the other "virtues" such as individualism and self-determination?
You are very vague with this question, but I am going to try to answer it to my best ability as I have understood it to be what you mean. Individualism and self-determination, not to mention the complete lack of self-control is what brought the pregnancy on in the first place. Presumably, you do know what causes pregnancy, then you should also know how to prevent pregnancy. These things are taught in school every year during sex education, and should be fairly well known facts by now. Failure to use preventive measures can only be blamed on the sorriness of the individuals involved.
Isn't it unfair to punish a teenager for one stupid mistake by making her have an unwanted child?
I don't know of a single stupid mistake made as a teenager, when someone didn't have consequences to abide with after the mistakes were made. No, it isn't unfair, and asserting that it is demonstrates a lack of understanding as well as a great deal of irresponsibility. Life is full of choices, some are bad, some are good. ALL of them have unavoidable consequences, good or bad.
Is it fair to make a woman suffer just because you think she should be having a baby?
Again, this comes down to knowing what makes a baby, how to prevent making a baby, and the fact that like it or not she does carry the responsibility of her actions. I am seeing a recurring theme in your questions. The bottom line is, you seem to think you, or any woman who becomes pregnant by her own willful and conscious actions has no responsibility when in fact she does. So does the man who took part in this, by the way. If using birth control or even self control is confusing to men and women, then they should just abstain from sex all together.
And above all, isn't it selfish to bring unwanted children into the world?
This question is so wrong, I am not even going to bother trying to answer it. Instead, this question needs to reworded in the following manner:
Isn't selfish as well as thoughtless and careless for me to engage in activities I know could get me pregnant fully knowing I either do not want children or are not ready to have children?
I'd also like to point out that the same people advocating anti-abortion regularly place budget cuts on schools and welfare programs, thus decreasing the chance of quality life for children. Life starts at conception for these people, but apparently ends at birth.
I had to walk away from my computer when I read this comment. I was so angry I could have broken it in to many pieces. It is not now, nor has it ever been, nor will it ever be the responsibility of government, social services, child protective services, the school system, society or any other entity in existence to day to raise my family or anyone Else's family and see to it they eat and have clothes or an education. The responsibility for those things fall on mine and my wife's shoulders and the parents of all other families, and our shoulders alone. The same is true for ALL other families all around the world. Government is not designed to provide for the needs of the citizens and can not be expected to carry that burden. The notion that it does is destroying our nation from its very foundations.
In conclusion, I do not think a baby should be aborted simply because someone has decided they do not want that baby. To do so is as much murder as walking in to a crowded room with a gun and open firing on anyone and everyone without impunity. Aborting a baby is punishing the child for a bad choice that was made willingly as well as consciously by the parents to engage in sexual activity. Why shouldn't the child be given the opportunity to have a good home and loving parents through an adoption agency? Isn't a child giving up its life through an abortion to save a mother from a mistake she made the ultimate example of selfishness and self centeredness? I think so. I believe anyone with a conscious will also. You want to leave out the religious aspect of why abortion is morally reprehensible all the while running quickly to place yourself in God's place to decide should a baby live or die.

Once the teenager has become pregnant it's not just her body anymore. Even teens know that having sex could result in pregnancy. If they don't want to risk that then they should practice abstinence until they're older and more mature and married! Why punish the innocent baby for the mistakes of its parents? If she doesn't want to keep it she can give it up for adoption. There are plenty of infertile couples out there waiting to adopt a baby.
You must think you are very wise to determine that all pro-lifers vote to cut school and welfare budgets. I'm 53 and have never voted against our school budgets. As or welfare, the legislature determines what is to be spent. I support PCAP, WIC, etc. Without social services (cash, food stamps and medicaid) our society would be in a world of trouble.
Comparing the death penalty to abortion is like comparing apples to oranges. They are worlds apart. An unborn child deserves a chance at life but are condemned to death (abortion) because a teenager "made a mistake" or some other nonsense. People on death row are their for crimes they committed.
And whether you like it or not, my faith (Christian) is a part of my life. I believe abortion is wrong and a sin. But it's not my place to judge a woman who chooses to have an abortion. I leave that in God's very capable hands. God bless!

Against abortion? Get a vasectomy.
It's interesting the most vehement answer addressed different issues raised but carefully avoided one in particular: pregnancy due to rape or incest. Placing responsibility on the woman for becoming pregnant when "she should know that's how it happens" really goes out the window in these cases, but the answer side stepped this entirely. Yes, we know what causes pregnancy. Yes, there are ways to decrease the likelihood that pregnancy happens. However, none of these are 100% effective. Pregnancy has occured even after one or both of the partners has had surgical sterilization. God gave human beings sexuality, and God made it pleasurable. I do not agree with using abortion as birth control, but things happen, and a woman should not be forced to go through an unwanted pregnancy because of the limits of contraceptives.

Amazing what responses one gets posting a question like this.
I am pro-choice....all the way.
I think anyone of those die-hard pro-lifers with their holier than thou attitude should be forced to adopt one or more of those unwanted children...but I think that is where their love for the unborn stops....
What about incestuous rape...should an 11 or 12 year old be forced to carry a child conceived that way?
I think not
What about when the woman's life or the unborn life is in danger...termination is called for....
Still don't agree?
Or do you pro-lifers rather bomb clinics where abortions are performed?
guess what...that kills fetuses....and grown up human beings....rather kill the person outside of the womb?Wait until the child is grown?
think about it.
Abortion by no means should be used as birth control, but there are situations where it is necessary.
And I don't even feel guilty thinking that way.

first of all with teh "One stupid mistake" thing. If you think you are mature enough to have sex you should consider yourself old enough to have a child.forcing a teen girl to keep a child is not a punishment, it is teaching responsiblity for your actions. And if you still consider it a punishment for "One stupid mistake', consider this:
If a man has a bad year, everything going wrong, and he makes"One stupid mistake" by killing his boss, should e not be punished? In that instance he took a human life, so does abprtion. tenns need to learn responsibility for their actions, plus there are several adoption agencies looking for children. It is not the baby's fault that your boyfriend can't keep his dick in his pants. As for not pushing religion in your face, that's quite impossible,as abortion is plainly stated as a sin in the bible, and because God created all life, further more, by law abortion should be illegal anyway. take the Scott Peterson Case. He killed his pregnant wife. The supreme Court charged him wioth TWO counts of murder one for the wife, and one for the unborn baby, so if the supreme court considers aan unborn baby to be a living human being, why should abortion be okay? It is shelfish to bring children that YOU don't want and YOU won't take care of. there are MILLIONS of couples who want children and can't concieve. Thinking that having a baby is going to drastically increase the population is just ludicris. But if your going to have sex, making you haver the baby isn't the government punishing you, it's You punishing yourself, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY a child should not be considerd a punishment. As for the budget cuts, Honey they aren;t aking that much out, trust me if they were, there would be a lot less abortions, Plus the governmant takes a LOT of money out for other things such as the military and other government spending, Anti-abortion isn't taking out that much, plus the US government is in debt trillions of dollars the little bit they are taking out for anti-abortion promos don't matter, because the money they gave to the schols,a dn welfare, the government probably doesn't actually have to spend anyway. taking a tiny bit away from public schools and welfare does not decrease the quality of life for children, killing them before they have a chance to expiereince life does.

What is murder ,Killing somebody isn't ?
exactly in the same manner abortion means to prevent somebody to come out.In other words to kill before he/she took birth.
Why it is termed as unwanted child .God has given us all the things especiaaly brain and our conscious doesn't allow us to do illegal things(murder in this case). If that children is unwanted,I am damn sure the pleasure seeking before it was unwanted too.I am not blaming only females over that, males even are equally responsible. So it is the duty of both partners to make the children legitimate.

Oh man...you are 100% correct of course. The answers given here just simple jolt me.
If abortion is murder then let's please all stop all kinds of killings and that includes war.
But all these self-righteous do-gooders who are against abortion are the very war mongers that run countries.
There killing doesn't seem to be a problem for them.
Seems they can chose who to kill (if I may use that word) but others cannot.
Abortion is not killing!!!!
There a valid reasons for this choice and certainly as Einstein said, not to be used as a method of birth control.
I think I will stop right here.....
Again, religion is involved.....why doesn't THAT surprise me!

I am with you! You made a well point of this subject. I often wonder where the people are to take care of or adopt the children that are born. The are the first to condemn a decision though. I pray for them all.
God Bless you

WOW !!My thoughts EXACTLY! I also think abortion is a personal issue for the woman concerned, what has it got to do with others? I think,NOTHING! Would those condemning the women involved like others interfering in THEIR PRIVATE issues? Here is one that will not push religion in your face! Those that spout off about religion, should remember, that's their own belief not everyone thinks the same,so they should keep that one to themselves!! I agree with you 100%
