I just left my husband of 3 1/2 years the other day. I found out he's been seeing another woman. He's now living with this woman. I know I'm going to get a divorce but I have no clue how to go about it. I've never had to go this before. Any suggestions would help. please. Also I live in Maryland.. If that makes much a difference.

I'm really sorry you are having to go through this. On the other hand, its a blessing in disguise because he showed you he is not husband material and you deserves a lot better. Here is a website that can provide you with the information you will need.

The most important thing you can do is remain calm and stay in control of your emotions. Hire an attorney and file for divorce. Make sure that he has everything that belongs to him (clothes, personal products, ect.) and hold on to "community property." This is the property that you both own (house, cars, furniture, electronics, savings). Many states have laws that make it illegal for a spouse to destroy, sell, or take community property until it is divided equally. I know you probably want to burn his stuff on the front lawn, but be the bigger person. Your attorney will get you through this. Visit sites like divorce.com. Many sites are for women to help them file a divorce. Good luck and be smart!

I'm very sorry to hear of your divorce. I would probably just start in the yellow pages and call different lawyers. Which ever one is most understanding and doesn't sound like an "ambulance chaser", then hire them. I do hope things work out for you. Ask the lawyer about alimony. If you have kids, get child support too.

First of all, congratulations on ditching the cheater...most women give in and stay and keep getting hurt and it takes a strong woman to end things and expect better for yourself!

Second, start by getting a lawyer. He/she will be able to sort things out for you after that and direct you in the right direction.

Good luck!

All states are different. Go to your local courthouse, and go to the information window. They should help you from there. There are many steps to take, LOTS of forms to fill out. Hopefully you have a friend who has already been threw this and they can help you also. Good Luck Hon!

Good job on having the courage to kick that looser to the curb. Check your local phone book for divorce attorneys, find one that gives a free consultation, if the don't they arent worth it. Good Luck to you.
