There is no need to LEARN to become an atheist. Just live your life without regard to what you know in your heart to be right and you will soon become one. Put yourself at the front of every question. Make your needs and wants the paramount focus of your life. Live your life as if you are the only person who matters. Join the Democrat Party (they deny God at every turn). It won't take too long after that.
If you really want to become an atheist, go see a Catholic priest and loudly and vehemntly deny God and Jesus Christ. Tell him the entire New Testament is bullclinton. Tell him Christ was a fake, a magician, a hypnotist. Do not let the good Father get in the way of your arguments. Just continue to rant and rave and scream.
You may also want to have a t-shirt printed up that says on it "God-hating Atheist and Proud of it" on one side and "God is a lie. Only stupid people believe such crap." on the other. Have several made so you can wear them all the time. Wear these t-shirts wherever you go. Talk to people who talk to you about your beliefs as stated on your shirts. Never let an opportunity go by to convince more people that atheism is the way to go. If you get the clinton beat out of you, keep spreading the word regardless of the pain. True atheists don't mind if they get their noses bloodied-- it's all part of the plan to remove any faith in a benevolent Power from society.
Forget about black robes and candles in five-sided circles, et cetera. That's all theatrics. Genuine atheists take their efforts to the courts. You need to sue some city over a tiny cross in a city seal or something like that. Get yourself noticed, make noise, go down to the local paper and raise some hell there about God being a construction of a secret society with an evil (good to you) plan to control the masses. If you really want to make a spalsh, go into a big church during Sunday morning services and start screaming at the top of your lungs that it's all a lie, it never happened, anybody who believes it is a fool, et cetera. Good atheists would not be even the slightest bit hesitant to do these things, so go for it! If you do these things for years and years without fail, Lucifer will welcome you into his kingdom of loathing, pain, hopelessness, darkness and sorrow forever and ever. You ain't started yet!!!???

If you believe in a God, sit down and write out your reasons. Like, "why is the sun" or "how do martinis exist," or whatever strikes you as needing a higher power to explain. Then, take your list of reasons, and start researching scientific explanations. Try Google. Take your time, and be thorough.
Then, write down your emotional reasons for believing in a deity. Things like "I'm afraid to die" or "things out of my control and understanding frighten me" if those are fears you have. Then, research the thoughts and explanations of other people on those subjects, as well as the science. There are lot of them out there.
Most Americans are raised with their parent's religious beliefs, and unless they are fortunate enough to have atheist parents, they must first throw off the yoke of those beliefs before they become atheists. It takes a long time. Study, and you'll find what makes sense to you. Mind you, it may not be atheism!
