Recently, Giuliani stated to the press that he is strongly considering a run for presidency in '08. McCain is also a strong possiblity. Can the Democratic party provide a contender for either of these?

I think Al Gore is the Democrats best chance but may not run.
Hillary is too polarizing
John Kerry - ran a crap campaign (he should have won if you consider Ohio, but he should have won without it), and his wife is not very likeable
John Edwards - too young
I would think that either of them could win against this slate. I'm a Democrat, so it's a bit depressing.
If I had to choose - I would say McCain would win

Giuliani did? Wow, I'm surprised. I didn't expect him to.
McCain has a shot, as long as he steps away from President Bush's agenda. He's been supporting him TOO much lately, and if he wants to win, he's going to have to stop that. If he forges his own way, he might just get some of the Democratic vote.
But if he continues his current trend or supporting the President blindly, he's not going to get ANY votes.

I hope McCain does it, I'm a Democrat and I hate the hell out of the current President but I don't think there would be a better Democratic candidate than McCain, I used to like Rudy a whole lot too, but he seems to flip flop on the issues a whole lot.

All of the following could beat those two: Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, John Edwards, the devil. Any Republican is going to be hurt by any association with Shrub and will go down in defeat. The conservative revolution is over - thank God!
