I have a 1996 Subaru Legacy. The heat does not work and I am not worried about it ever working.

The car is leaking coolant into the passenger side of the car. I do not care if the heat/air conditioner work.

All you have to do is find out the sixe of the heater hose, could be 5/8 or 3/4 and then find a coupler that size and remove the 2 hoses from the heater core and hook them together so the coolent can circulate. Local parts store will have a water flush kit that you can use for a coupler. Should cost around 10 dollars if you do it yourself.

Find the two lines running to firewall, cut them at the firewall put a peice of rigid tubing in the lines that run back to the engine , this will close the loop in the system. clamp with hose clamps and your off.

All the above answers are good. It is really not that hard to replace the heater core either and they are not that expensive. Put your boyfriend to work girl!!!
