The people of America are great people - you have been for 200+ years - providing so much to the world in the areas of science, medicine, art, economics, technology not to mention the mere presence as a large and powerful free society that serves (often by mere presence) to keep other dictator or radical movements from rising to power and spreading across the world over the past century - which, undoubtedly, would have changed the world for the worse today if it were allowed to have happen. All educated, intelligent people of the world recognize these contributions and the good of what is.. America.
For these things, we in the rest of the world are grateful.. and we like Americans very much.

I have been to the United States several times on business. I love the people, the places to see, and the things to do - virtually unlimited - a vast and wonderful society you have!

However, there are several forces that are changing the "American" qualities - Qualities that have made you such a great presence and made you wonderfully unique in the world and are at risk of being lost forever. These forces have been at play on many other developed (e.g. European) nations for a long time, and are taking their toll on your country as well and its place in the world. It mostly deals with something called 'patriotism' and love of one's own country. And the following forces (or as I like to call them - Diseases) have been degrading those feelings among you as a nation of people for several years now as you show signs of becoming "just another" nation in the world, filled with people who are passive and don't stand up or care.

I think these UNFORTUNATE CHANGING FORCES can be described as follows:

1. Resentment from less productive or less successful groups, medias,
or nations, thereby creating a mind-washed consensus, placing undo
strain on America's respect in the world among the people who are taught
that America is somehow "bad to be on top" and thus taking it's toll on
your nation the longer it remains in that position of at the top or in the lead
and the resentments inevitably continue to grow with time.

2. Religious differences taking their toll throughout the whole world - but
especially seeking out America in the fight - because it creates order and
represents religious tolerance within it's borders, but better than any
nation near it's size.

3. The "selling out" of your nation from multiple groups from WITHIN (your
citizens themselves) - at dangerous levels - all serving to 'dumb-down' the
population to their views.
This includes your easily influenced youth (as with the youth of most
nations) who are more influenced by the agendas of the liberal-minded
media and pop-culture forces than seeking truth by educating themselves
of the facts of world events. These people are your future leaders. Add to
this the fact that your education system (among others) is failing them,
then.. may all the luck be with you and what these minds will go on to do
for your nation and the world..
Corporations are selling out your nation as well.. Perhaps stronger and
more powerful than any other group. Because they are loyal to the
currency and not the nation's identity and history, they, with access to
virtually all of your nation's wealth and influence over your leaders, have
more power - by far - to continue with their agenda of selling-out your
nation.
Liberal pacifist, at the other extreme, are also undermining your nation's
respect throughout the world - equally having harmful influences on your
weak-minded citizens and youth with their own anti-American sentiments,
reaping all of the benefits of living in an advanced free society created by
the very hard-working Americans of your nation's past (the very people the
liberal minds often degrade or put down), but putting forth no contribution
of their own but only their degrading lifestyles lacking any family structure
and their mockery of other such "American" structures that made
America great in it's history.. Why? perhaps resentment and
unhappiness with their own miserable lives and liberal hippy
mind-washed upbringings (You know, the typical pot-smoking lives of
sitting around, not producing anything but their own human waste..
'Let's just listen to music all day and eat and party, and if the radical
movements in the world show up with their AK-47's onto our front
doorsteps, and then we'll just convince them they need to lay down their
weapons so that we may all live in peace! and they will! because they will
see that we, or course, mean them no harm, and then nobody dies and
we all live in peace." Yeah, right! As these apes line you up and either
shoot you or slit your throats -women and children and all - for not
converting to their belief system.) Please stop selling-out your country, in
the name of "peace". Until you actually make an asserted effort to solve
the problem at its source by changing way of thinking among the equally
numb-skull minds of the monkeys with the AK's, your single-minded
dim-witted ideoligistic mentalities are going to wind up causing more
harm and prolonged disorder to this world than anything with
gunpowder behind it.

And last but not least, your mind-washing media (both in news and
entertainment) with an agenda that is both indifferent and hell-bent on
NOT being patriotic for their own country and way of life - only to risk
destroying it ALL in the process, in the name of "objectivity". This force
has a (dangerous) platform to create agendas, alter opinions and form
unsubstantiated consensus' among the people - precisely the way they
wish them to see it and not the way it actually is.. thereby keeping the
majority of your citizens understanding the world only through their
narrow little scope of agenda setting - of "what's really news"-
Along with both of the left and right extremes, the media serves to
act in the middle (with both corporate agendas and liberal powers at
play within the commercial media and advertising groups) to keep
tearing apart at the fabric of your great nation going at full pace under
your very eyes and not even aware of what mess your country is being
led into.

4. The "selling out" of your country by both right and left powers, is also
leading to a change in the demographics and the fabric structure of what
made America "America". A land that was founded on the concept of
immigrants - who came to the country and assimilated into a single
people for the greater good - is rapidly being replaced by an influx of
"illegal" immigration - a growing out-of-control crisis actually permitted to
occur by a failed system fueled by corporate greed on one side and
liberal human-rights pacifism on the other - both influencing and
denying the US government leaders to take any action to stop it.
The result: A crisis of an out-of-control influx of unassimilated
multi-culturalism at levels never before seen by the U.S., causing the
once great, but dying nation to look less like a nation in itself and more
like a giant world convention, where everyone shows up, does business,
rapes the place for all it's worth, and moves on leaving the place trashed
because of a, "it's not my home" mentality - because nobody ever feels
at home in America anymore.. Why? BECAUSE NOBODY SPEAKS THE
SAME LANGUAGE ANYMORE - something that DIRECTLY helped to
make America strong in her past. The immigration was permitting at
such large masses in such a short period of time, systems were made to
fit them soley for the sake of getting them to stay and spend more money
in the economy (the corporate greedy bastards) Education in the
schools, driver's licences, government assistance - all in their own
language, etc) all of which allows them to live and function in their own
divided groups instead of forcing them to adjust their way of living to the
"American" lifestyle and assimilating like in the America of yesteryear...
I think this will be lost forever, now that the right and left forces from
within have had their effect.

America, is falling back from it's level at the lead and is becoming more
like any other country in the world - you can see it in it's people and in it's attitude. This is actually sad. Every good "team" needs it's leader, and the the developed world has had a very good one in the Americans for more than a century. We may not be able to have such a leader with unique qualities in the future - if we all look the same. The world will suffer with America falling apart from within from the factors as described above.

To answer your question.. I like Americans. However, I see them changing due to external and internal forces to be nothing unique in the world. I won't be able to tell them apart from others. I don't know if I will like Americans anything special 100 years from now. They show signs that they are heading toward a point of not standing out as a firm-standing, virtuous nation.

I hope you mean what you said, because as an American myself, what I have to say about most of my compatriots, isn't that flattering, and my views come from not having been raised in the US, but in Europe, where my father was serving for the US Armed Forces, so thanks to that background, my views on American people and the culture are far more objective than the average American who has never left their county, let alone their country, and such Americans go by the millions.

Such Americans have very little factual knowledge and the knowledge they think they have come mostly from media influences. Most of incapable of truly thinking on their own, but yet they think that they have this vast knowledge because they watch Jeopardy on a regular basis. That isn't entire their fault, as the school systems in America aren't that great, especially when I started going to college in Texas, they were teaching stuff I had learned when I was 10 or 11 years old in Europe.

Another aspect of American life is the self-indulging personality and the "keeping-up-with-the-Joneses" motivation is more important to them, than what's good for society as a whole. Not only are they not inclined to help those who are less fortunate than they are, but are more likely to judge them harshly, as deserving of their circumstances.

Labor laws in America are appalling, and favoring the employer to a point that American workers have virtually no rights whatsoever. Millions of Americans are being cheated out of pensions they have spent decades earning and the government won't do anything to prevent that theft from corporations. ENRON is a prime example of that. Yes, a few executives were prosecuted, big deal! For those who are prosecuted for white-collar crimes, how many more do get away with it day after day, month after month, year after year, and decade after decade?

Anything good in America has achieved has been at the great expense of others. (Don't take my word for it -- study your history).

Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, and I'm not referring to every single American. There are many Americans who are good decent people, who are truly educated and who is tolerant of the differences of others. Unfortunately, for every decent, educated and tolerant American in this society, there are 99 that are what I described above, making them more notorious in the eyes of the world.

I hope you don't take exception, but after all, you asked. For anyone who may say, "If you don't like it here, why don't you leave?" I have. I live in Canada.

Ignorant, self centered, isolated, greedy and MEAN.
In a world of fast food and faster divorces, where to begin?
I am a part of the disillusioned youth of America. I see so much hypocrisy and greed in our country. No one cares about each other anymore. (It's all about ME. mentality)
Now, to the contrary, I have seen much beauty, and more kindness every day. Maybe we are seeing the errors of our ways? I should certainly hope. For every action, a reaction. I see America as the new Rome, and Rome fell.

They are like the people of every other country, some are fine, some you just want to hit over the head with a sledgehammer. They do seem to think they live in some kind of paradise though!

I am not an American. My overall view of people from the USA is that they seem insulated and isolated, the governing viewpoint of Americans seems ( to a lot of us europeans) "to hell with the rest of the world, we don't need them, they need us". I am not saying that that is so, but it is the message that seems to come across. I might add that this is mainly caused by your government.

I think Americans, (which I am) are ignorant, we think we are the best in the world, and U.N. rules don't apply to us. In a couple of years China will be the strongest power in the world.
