If you are not a citizen, or permanent resident, this will be difficult. If you are here legally, and you want to become a permanent resident (Green Card), then, it makes it easier. However, if you are just here as a visitor, you need to be careful because you may put yourself in jeopardy as you had to sign a form that specifies that you should not be applying for a job while here as a tourist. If you have a visa, then it makes it a little easier. You may contact a private school, and sometimes, they sponsor you for a green card. If you are interested in applying for a language instructor, you may be a teaching assistant. Those can be helpful. I don't know what you want to teach, which makes a difference too. Chicago tends to get people from overseas to teach in their secondary public schools. Many options once you give more information as to:

1. What subject you want to teach?
2. What your legal situation is?
3. What your background is?

You may also contact your own consulate of embassy, and ask them to forward you to their cultural dept. They all have one, and they can help you out.

If you are not a citizen, check out the annual lottery. The # of Green Cards vary, and once you have got a winning number, you still need to go through interviews, and a couple of other processes (medical visit, fees...)

Good luck!

You need to be a whinning cry baby to be a US public school teacher. You get paid full time pay for part time work. What you do is this--after you are off June, July, and August you return to "work" in Sept. and then start using up your paid vacation days, sick days, and other bonus days off and then complain that you are overworked, underpaid, need a new school built, and if the Democrats don't give you more money and more benefits (which rarely happens) you then go on an illegal strike holding the students education hostage. That is what you must do to be a public school teacher in the US.

America is dying for qualified teachers. Look in the Phone Book/Yellow pages for a Government service/ or school program for teachers and call there, DON'T BE SHY! Someone somewhere will have the information you need! Good luck!

I think teachers should be highly regarded and not viewed to as whinny. If you are going to teach in our public school system you need to be aware of the many special needs children each school has. Most are special needs because of the lack in parental discipline. We have a serious problem in our public school systems. It seems to me that teachers aren't able to teach because they are spending far too much time in the disciplinary department. To be a really good teacher you need to have good communication with all parents. Especially the hard to handle kids and you need to not bore them to death. Be creative.

You need a degree, preferrably in education. You then must be certified in a subject area. They now require highly qualified in some states, which is a minor in the subject you are teaching. Go to your local college counselors and they can guide you.

I would HIGHLY advise you to become a citizen first. Don't you realize that there is a HUGE debate going on right now about illegal aliens?
