There is no need to "cleanse" the colon.
The colon cleanses itself pretty efficiently if you drink enough water and eat enough fiber. Especially from fruits and vegetables. (which contain fiber and water)
Basically a liquid solution containing some kind of ion (like the sodium ion in table salt) is pumped into the colon via the rectum. Much like an enema, but with more volume and higher.
The ion concentration draws water out of the walls of the colon by osmosis (where water moves from an area of low concentration through a filter to an area of high concentration in an attempt to balance them out.) The Water coming back INTO your colon is exactly what happens during diarrhea.
Some laxatives work by the same effect. Epsom salts (used in cows) for example. It might create the illusion of weight loss by causing temporary dehydration. Which would of course have a rebound effect since the body holds onto water more tightly after being dehydrated as a safety feature.
In short, colon cleansing is not necessary, not healthful, in certain cases can be harmful, and does not help you lose weight.
Good question though.

The weight loss may be minimal if at all significant but in terms of health, anything "cleansing" is definitely a plus. It may also help with constipation and overall feeling of well being since the waste in the colon is being removed.

It’s really a stupid idea.
You will only lose the weight you would lose by going to the bathroom, so why pay for something you are going to do anyway?
