I test drove one today and absolutely fell in love with it. Is owning one everything I can dream of and more?

Glad to answer your question. I just bought a 2 door civic ex. I had a 1991 CRX that I drove for 12 years and had a hard time parting with it. Actually I'm saving it for my 13 year-old son!
The car is wonderful. 2006 Motor Trend Car of The Year! I mean really what else is to be said. The Si is obviously the nicest one (extra power, and a little more stylish). The reason I didn't get the Si is because you MUST use premium fuel with that engine-OUCH!!! Too rich for my blood. The gas mileage on mine is 30mpg in city and 40mpg HWY. I have a 5 speed, I like the feel of shifting the gears myself. I would recommend the new civic to anyone. I looked at the Accord. It is more expensive, but honestly I would have bought the Civic if they were the same price. It turns a lot of heads, as it looks much sportier than previous versions of the Civic. Good Luck!! By the way the sticker price on mine was 19,010. I ended up getting the dealer to come down to 17,300. That was after talking with 3 different dealers. You won't regret it!!!!!

I assume you mean the brand new shape (5 door, we're still waiting for the 3 door, it was launched at th elondon motor show).
My old man's picked one up, a diesel in black. Looks better in black or gray due to all the plastic fenders and bits.
DIesel engine version is much quicker than the figures would have you believe, and is extremely frugal. Being a Honda Diesel it's also eons quiter than anything other than the BMW diesels. Interior is setting new standards for user friendly-ness and as with any honda, will last the earth. The design of the interior is first class, and it's refreshing to see Honda have taken a clean slate and actually thought about where things should be!
Bear in mind if you go for a really basic model some options you'd think are normally included aren't (base model doesn't have a stereo!) So check the spec before you buy.
All in all, other than being having a bit of a boring image (something thats idiosynchratic considering it's quite bizarre looks) it's a very very good buy. May be a touch more expensive than others, but you'll get good resale, and I'm sure you're already sold on the honda reliability.
As a company director, I'm waiting for the new Civic Type-R to be launched later this year. It's to have the same 2 litre 16 valve VTEC engine with power hiked slightly.
Other car to look out for is certainly the ford focus and new astra. Both have considerably upped the levels of spec, performance and refinement and now, there seems to be no need to shell out for the more expensive golf or A3 other than image.

We bought a Civic EX Sedan in February. Love it. Way better than the Toyota Corolla it replaced. Have been getting 30-34 MPG.
We also test-drove the Toyota Corolla. The Civic outclasses it in every way (handling, acceleration, quietness). The Corolla is less expensive, until you start adding features that come standard with the Civic (side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, etc.). We don't happen to be Honda loyalists; like I stated earlier, the previous car was a Corolla. The one drawback we can see is that Honda parts costs seem to be higher than Toyota parts costs overall. We decided that this wasn't important, as both companies have very good reliability records.
Also, don't listen to Mojoman. He obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. The Civic has been such hot seller that the factories in the Ohio and Canada haven't been able to keep up with the demand. The one we bought was assembled in Japan. Also, the 2006 Civic was the best selling compact car in the US in 2005 (see link below), although I believe the Corolla still beats it in worldwide sales.

I have a CRX at the moment and love it - it's a great car to drive and it seems that most Honda drivers love their cars. Bear in mind the type R "hot" version is due out soon - might be worth waiting for!
If I had the money, or a grandma I could sell, I'd have one today!

I m an Honda fan ! I ve got a prelude all tuned up nicely but i hate the new civic ! I m sure its a good motor but it looks ugly as hell !

About 5 days from putting in an order for one. The new styling is great the front reminds me of the old Citroens from the '70s -- Groovy

the civic is the best small car you can buy! I have a 2000 and will buy a 2007! the best combination of power and economy you can get! i also work for toyota so i am not biased! you can go to honda.com and get specs and great pictures!

Why would anyone get one? it may be engineered well but the stiling is a massive step backwards from what was a beautiful car, no dowt they'll sell a shed load though and make our roads look a bit more ugly!

a friend has i drove its not bad looks are divided but stand out the new sporty 3 door looks cool

a very efficient car but very ugly to compensate. i would compare it to the renault laguna, the comfiest car i have ever driven but no power when you need it. are you lookin to go green and if not try a focus or new megane.
