It depends on the plant and and if they were supposed to be planted that deep. Also depends on if you keep the seeds wet enough or too wet, if they're getting enough sun or are warm enough. ETC.... I'd probably wait a couple weeks.

I do not know what kind of seed you are talking about but 5 inches is pretty deep for most garden stuff.
