quite a bit of moisture in the soil. So much so that the surface of the earth under the house grows a kind of non dangerous mildew. (In this neighborhood, the ground water is quite high during wet weather). I have installed a sump pump and in the wettest of weather it pumps out lots of water but I'm wondering if someone out there knows of other solutions. I've thought of covering the ground under the house with a plastic tarp material. Are there fans for this sort of thing to help the ground dry out? Any other thoughts/solutions would be mucho appreciated!

here in nc the vapor barrier is code! it should cover all the dirt except 1 ft of dirt showing around the foundation wall.....if the ground water table is high there, if u have not already done it, dig a hole twice the width of the sump pump...about 2 ft deep., put some gravel on the bottom of the hole and set the pump on it and then surround the pump with gravel. this keeps the dirt out.

hope this helps, this is how we fix the problems.......

i could the two get yet another inspector out or pass. If there is leaking water, you are going to have mildew someplace, no count if an inspector unearths it or no longer. And the indisputable fact which you stated moist partitions leaking makes me think of there is unfavourable or no ventilation the place there should be some. while you're having allergies commencing once you moved in, then take that as a demonstration that there is an argument with the living house. in my opinion, i does no longer danger my wellness for a 'deal' on a apartment, incredibly if that 'deal' finally ends up costing me wellness and medical fee.

Ventilation, a vapor barrier (on bottom of house, not on ground), the sump are all good moves.

well so far tarp on the dirt is good....the fan is good...but also there is a type of material that you can tack to the beams under your floor to protect.them also....maybe a french drain around the outside of your house and attach it to your down spout gutter system....and make sure your gutters are working properly...goodluck

You should install insulation under your house and add a vapor barrier to the house.
