I've noticed that sexually "open minded" people aren't necessarily socially open minded.

is it hypocritical to not have an open mind about something if you insist everyone should have an open mind about sex?

Open-mindedness is a very cultural thing, and just because people claim to be open minded (or intelligent) doesn't mean you should necessarily take them at their word.
I have found that observing people and their reactions to given situations is a much better indicator as to what they are and aren't.
Being multi cultural myself, has made it relatively simple for me to figure out how open minded I really am. I find that I am much more than most Americans, but I would never claim that I am the most open minded of them all, or even that I am open minded in everything.
To paraphrase you don't want sooo open a mind that you brain falls out. ;-)
But all I can say, try me! (Just leave me alone with 'religious and spiritual' questions. They bore the hell out of me because of their meaninglessness to me. :-)
Good question, BTW.

I think that most people who are open minded in general have a place where they are not.
It also depends how you define open minded. Is it accepting others regardless of their beliefs, standards, and behaviors or is it someone who is willing to try anything or some one who questions everything?

I personally believe that an open minded person is someone who is accepting of others. It doesn't mean that they agree with them, or that they would try the same thing, but that they understand that they can believe, act etc differently for different reasons.
Someone who is open minded is someone who is willing to listen to another persons side, and try to understand it from their point of view.

Not entirely sure how being open minded sexually is related to being open minded socially. Even those who are open minded sexually are not necessarily open minded. A person who is gay and believes in Gay Marriage (this does not go to my stance on it or if it is right or wrong) can be just as close minded as a person who is not and does not.

Open mindedness is not about ones belief but about they way one interacts with the rest of the world in regards to ones beliefs and another beliefs.

Painful or pleasureful facts, the mind should be ready to accept items that are real that are of either kind. This 'sexual open mindedness' could actually be a painful fact for you depending on the constituent of your essential being that is active in connection with the other, e.g. love. We have a painful time struggling for and against our tendency to conserve our identity and the facts of our life, e.g. the less predictability the greater our anxiety for our imagination has no guide, i.e. good is equally possible for bad. We want to conserve the value of our social relationships, our sense for safety and these values are a function of time and need, i.e. the when who, why and for what how long. Time and need are also a function for agreement, contract, comprehensibility, sanity.

Acceptance does not in every example give pleasure or comfort. Sometimes for loves sake we must accept our rejection for demands of others that has no basis in our own reasoning. We must protect our sanity, our mental health first, even if it means rejecting a person for their unique demands.

I feel that I am pretty open minded about people's lifestyle choices and beliefs. I am not militant about anything and try to see the other side of the coin. Unfortunately, my limit is with stupidity.

I do have a limit to my tollerance. I am trying hard to work on improving it. My downfall is spineless girls. I do not consider myself a feminist; I never saw a need for feminism. I am equal to the best of men and that's that.

But then I encounter these spineless girls that allow the men in their lives to dictate what they feel, wear, think etc and I lose it. Come on girls... stand up for yourselves. Stop whineing and get a back-bone. Carry your own bags, change your own tire and THINK FOR YOUR SELVES!!! You are a person in your own right, not a baby making machine who is purely a function of the man in your life.

I guess I am a misogynist. Sometimes I honestly believe that, as women, our worst enemies are not men, but other women.

Yes I'm open-minded. I respect the right of others, I respect the fact they have an opinion and are welcome to give it even when I am not in agreement with it. Open-mindedness really just has to do with respect for others so long as what they are doing are within the law.

That doesn't mean I'll agree on things though, I'm open minded enough to understand them, but it's my choice to agree or not.
