Any piping in an exterior wall, in a cold environment, should be insulated. The good thing about Pex piping is that it is forgivable when it comes to freezing. If it is installed right it might still freeze, but it won't break. Even if the fittings are installed right, they won't break either. Pex has had pipe in freezers for years, testing it, and it has never broken with freeze - thaw cycles. Pex is great, but just to make sure you will have water when you want it, insulate it! Good Luck

Yes. If not, the line will freeze and you can't use the water. I have found that pex tubing can expand greatly when frozen, but the connectors can still split. If you plan to run the pipe where it will be exposed, plan on having a cutoff - you'll need it.

Anytime you have anything, with water in it, I wouuld insulate, if your exposing it to the weather...
If you expose the connectors, they will freeze and break, as well as any other part, will freeze and, by expansion, will break, or, maybe split the pex...

If it's exposed to extreme temperatures it does. If it freezes it will crack or come apart at the connectors.

PEX TUBING WILL NOT FREEZE IF INSTALLED CORRECTLY.
