I like that you didn't use the word "meaning." This is a much better question than the usual one.

Of course, the purpose of life depends on what standpoint you take.

From a biological standpoint, the purpose of life is self-replication. Reproduction. The passing-on of genes.

From a religious standpoint, life serves a gateway to a higher plane of consciousness: heaven, nirvana, call it what you will.

Personally, I prefer to believe that each human being is free to forge his own purpose. Our genes create, but need not define, us. God and enlightenment are abstractions removed from our everyday experience. The task of living, therefore, is to animate one's life with a personal, individual, inalienable purpose. In my life, that purpose lies in the cherishing of experience itself.

I think the purpose of life is to make as much as you can out of it. Live this life to its fullest, and bring about change in the world. It doesn't have to be something that affects the whole world, because even if you help one person in the world you have served your purpose in life.

What was the purpose of christ's life? to guide towards faith

What if edison was not there ? we would not have light bulbs ,

What if there were no survivors of tsunami ? there would not be anyone to tell how it occured. or waht was the devestation?

In your life you would serve some purpose. you would be useful to others to make up their life. The purpose might be unclear , buy you have left a trail of stepping stones for others..

Live your life , be purposeful.

The purpose of life is all in the Lord's hands. The Lord gives us projects we have to do with our lives and most people don't recognize it. We have the purpose to do his will. That is why we give it all to the Lord, put everything in his hands and live life and give the way he wants us to.

To learn and grow, helping others along the way. To become one with our Creator, and help others become one as well.
The purpose of life is to learn so you won't have to incarnate again- so what is your life's purpose? Seek it out.

In the literal sense: To sustain life.

Theoretically: I'd say it's to sustain a sense of happiness--whatever that may be.
