You shouldn't pull the skin back at all, a young boy's skin is attached to the head and pulling it back can cause real damage. Just sitting him in a bath will clean it well enough. My son is 8 and his skin is still attached, although it does retract further than when he was a baby.

By the way, it's a real shame there are some sick individuals who answer someone's genuine concern with a stupid comment.

I've read it in several books not to ever pull the skin back until the child is older as it can cause tearing. I wash my baby boy every day, and in between the bathing, I use baby wipes and clean the area and the tip of the willy, or use cooled boiled water. As long as you clean the surrounding area regularly, there'll be no infections. Also lift the penis up, they get dirty there easily and quickly.

I have 2 boys 10 and 12 weeks. Neither are circumcised. You do nothing. Just wash while in the bath. My 10 y/o has never had any problems or infections from not being circumcised or not pulling the skin back when he was a baby.

The answer depends on the exact age of your baby, and if he was circumcised or not. If he is just home from the hospital and was circumcised already, they most likely told you how to care for that! One thing is, you keep his penis covered with a Vaseline gauze during that phase.
If you son is newborn and not circumcised you simply pull back the foreskin enuf to cleanse the folds there, and only that much. Then you clean those folds with water, wiping gently.
If you have more concerns about it, plz call his pediatrician! Any good pediatrician will want to help you.

i remember asking a friend with a little boy the same thing when i first had my son.

the first thing is not to pull his foreskin back - you could hurt him unintentionally or introduce bacteria into the area

firstly, clean carefully around the area with a little water and baby soap if you want. i used johnsons as everything else irritated my son - it stings me if i use soap so i use the same rules with my kids.

lift his penis and clean around the area, his bottom and the other two very carefully. be really gentle with his two veg. i used to use cotton wool balls until he was a little older. if you are using soap then rinsed carefully as well. i would only use soap when he has dirtied - the rest of the time water was fine. if he has dirtied his penis then wipe it carefully as well - but it is really hard for anything to get in there and a bath should sort anything out there.

that about it really - good luck with your little boy and get ready for the penis pulling when he is older - mine likes to do it when the health visitor is in!

You can pull the skin back all the way (as long as you tear nothing) and
clean it. Do not put anything into the tip, however.

There is no need to scrub anything very hard down there.

Mild mild mild soap and water, luke warm.

Of course that's pretty much true with cleaning any part of an infant.

DO NOT RETRACT HIS FORESKIN.

Your baby's foreskin should NOT be retracted. The foreskin is firmly attached - really fused - to the glans. Pushing your son's foreskin back too early can cause scar tissue formation and damage.

By the time he is school-aged he will be able to retract it. THEN to clean under the foreskin, gently push it as far as possible toward the body. Carefully wash the entire area with soap and water. When the area is cleaned and rinsed, replace the foreskin over the head of the penis.

I have to boys..You don't need to do anything special. The skin will naturally pull back with age. DON'T pull on it yourself. As my sons got older, I did (because daddy wasn't around at the time) tell them to pull the skin back while in the tub to clean the area. More than this, nothing needs to be done. If you have any other worries, just bring them up at your next pediatic appointment....

Good Luck

I have 4 boys and 1 girl....so, I have done this a "few" times...my 2nd son for whatever the reason...they didn't circumcise him enough...so, in a tepid bath, I would pull the skin back gently and clean him while in the warm water...it keeps him from being irritated...and to this day he has to be mindful of "taking care of business" in the shower to avoid irritation...once irritated...a little vaseline does the job!

Yes, it's normal. A baby boy's foreskin is supposed to be attached to the glans (head) of the penis. Don't pull it back!!

Generally a little boy's foreskin doesn't begin to retract fully until he's much older. Either you or his dad will need to help him to gradually break the natural adhesions. This takes time. Ask your doctor about this.
