help, a tad stressed out here. My wife is 15 weeks preggo's. On Friday, after a long day out and about (including gorging herself at a food festival), she came home at midnight and we discovered vaginal spotting upon unrination. Initially, it was a very small amount, but bright red.

We went to the emerg, doctor diagnosed it as "threatening to miscarriage". Checked her cervix, it was closed, baby's heartbeat was a bit higher than usual (180BPM'S). She had no cramping or fever, and was braver than anyone I've ever met.

All blood tests came back fine. Spotting subsided a bit yesterday, then stopped altogether this morning. But returned again this afternoon, but the consistency is different. Its a very small amount, darkish color and gooey. We're just waiting it out until we can see her doc on Monday. In the meantime, I've been consoling myself with bouts of nausea.

Any thoughts or experiences,

Respectfully

Troy B

Forgot to mention, Doc did a full pelvic exam, which prompted more bleeding as well, this time, a bit of a dark red stream.

My husband and I went thru this in June...I started bleeding bright red blood and lost the baby 3 days later...don't let that worry you because 50% of all women who bleed carry to term...I did bleed with my son and he turned two yesterday...

I know what both of you are going thru....the hardest part is not knowing. From what I read...dark blood is old and not as much a concern as bright red blood.

If the "not knowing" is driving you and your wife insane--I would suggest you have the ER check to see if the baby still has a heartbeat...about all you can do now is wait...I know this is torture for you both. I wish you both the best. Please email me if you would like to speak further.

Some women will spot throughout pregnancy and still go on to have healthy babies. But any time you see blood (particularly if it is red blood, which indicates it is a fresh bleed, unlike brown spotting) you need to let your doctor know. Any kind of spotting is labeled "treatened miscarriage" and needs to be watched carefully.

I have not experienced a miscarriage, but I would recommend that she stay in bed until her appointment with her doctor. There are ways to keep the baby from coming too soon, but miscarriages, though devastating, are nature's way of 'taking care of things' if this baby has something wrong.
I will keep you in my thoughts!

Troy B - That happened to me when I was around 15 weeks or so, and it scared me. It went on for a couple of days, then it stopped. I didn't have any cramping or pain. I don't want to say that it is normal, but it happens. I would tell her to relax and take it easy. I had a beautiful girl who is perfect. Also, to let you know that I was 40 years old when I had her. Good luck.
