Obviously this question comes from someone who admires Tom Cruise and not someone who is "into motor sports".
Jockeying for position? in F1? in Baha? More like follow the leader. There are more passes for the lead in a single NASCAR race than in an entire F1 season.
Slow cars? I would like to compare the speeds of NASCAR cars vs. F1 cars on the same tracks. Easy circle? Guess what. None of the NASCAR tracks is a circle. And none of them are easy. Remember that F1 cars were pulled from the track at Indy, because they couldn't take the turns that the NASCAR drivers do.
This is my "stock" answer for why F1 is not popular as NASCAR in the USA, just because this question gets asked so frequently.
Could it be that there are only four or six cars that have a chance at winning a race?
Could it be that sometimes they only can get 6 cars to start a race?
Could it be that they cannot get through the first turn of the first lap without crashing?
Could it be that a couple years ago, F1 went for an entire season with only a couple passes for the lead?
Could it be that "team orders" are pretty much equivalent to "fixing" a race?
Could it be that instead of having 20 cars within 2 seconds of the leader, F1 is lucky to have 2 cars on the same lap as the leader?
F1 should not be too concerned, there are several US racing series that are not as popular as NASCAR.

Golf is much more fun to watch than NASCAR. I wouldn't describe it as 500 laps of slow cars going in an easy circle; but it is BORING.
Formula 1 has it's own problems which does make passing difficult; but it is far superior to NASCAR. If F1 and NASCAR competed on the same track, with no added chicanes or other means of slowing the F1 cars, the times of the F1 cars would demolish the NASCAR times.

you want boring,,,,,,where do I start,,tennis,,soccer,,squash,,pro basketball(over paid jerks!!),,,golf,,pro bowling,,skeet shooting,, do I need to continue??
You think the sport is not demanding on the person driving in a circle??? There is a lot of g-force on the driver,,inside the car it gets very hot(no air movement,,,engine & exhaust heat builds up inside the car),,sitting in the same position for many hours,, have you ever gone to a race track and tried to walk from the in field to the grand stand wall??? the banking is very steep,,,and the drivers are fighting that to stay on the track,,,driving very close to another car,INCHES at times between the car's at over 180 mph,, and you think that takes no skill or talent???,,You don't know much about the sport you are being a critic about!!

I don't know. I guess when one doesn't understand the sport, of course it will seem boring. Try attending a race at your local track and just maybe you will gain an understanding of auto racing.
I bet you couldn't last four hours in a race car. These guys have to be in shape to drive a race car. They certainly are athletes as are the guys on pit road during the race.

Have you ever been to a live race? Don't knock it until you have truly experienced it. GOLF and tennis are much worse.
I hate to tell you this, but those cars are not slow going. Oh yeah, and maybe you should go try it if you think those cirlces are easy.

Nascar is pretty bad, if I had to watch races, I'd go for Drag races instead.
