Ok u cant go to Amsterdam without visiting some of the bars their..Irecommend "The Grasshopper" and "Teasers Bar" near the centre.. Also if u would like some really nice ffod then it would be worth a visit to "o'Reillys" bar..
Plus try to go to a sea town called zaandvoort about forty miles out of Amsterdam to the north i think.. It's a really great beach and very beautiful..

Next to the Central Station (in the old post sort building) is the new "Stedelijk Museum", with modern art. On the highest floor, there's a café restaurant, very cool place to be.

Don't miss the Vondelpark, with the Film museum. In the Vondelpark, there's also a (free) theatre. On Saturday afternoon, there are music and theatre shows for the whole family, in the afternoon there's music and sometimes comedy. Sunday afternoons is for world music, jazz et cetera.

And go see the market on the Waterlooplein (not on Sundays).

For a quick tour through a part of the city: from Central Station take the tram (1, 2 or 5) to the Leidseplein. Then change for tram 3 to the Haarlemmerpoort, and from that you can take bus 22 (I think) to Central Station again (or walk).

Best areas: Jordaan and the Pijp.

Have fun!!!

If you like your art, the Rijksmueum has lots of paintings by the Dutch masters, including Rembrandt's famous "Nightwatch", and there are quite a few other big galleries as well.

A bit touristy perhaps, but a guided canal trip is quite nice and relaxing.

Talking of relaxing, you should try at least one of the cafés where you do don't really go for the coffee, if you know what I mean ;+) Well, it would be rude not to!

As for the clubs/theatres in the red light district, I guess it depends on your erm, principles... but the "Moulin Rouge" is nothing like its Parisian namesake!!

I travel to Amsterdam a lot and the neighbourhood that I like th emost in the Jordaan. It's located in the west part of the city centre and is by far the most beautifull area of amsterdam. Also the Vondel park is a very nice park to see. The area around the Vondel park is also very Beautifull.

Bubba's coffeeshop - right down the street from the Grashopper towards the huge Porno sign at the end of the street; it's impossible to miss.

The Sex Museum - it's a total scream and located on the right side of the main street as you're facing the train station.
