I have had 19 lessons now and am really competent at driving. I drove from Wales to England yesterday. I have been taught how to do 3 point turns and bay parking but my instructor refuses to teach me parallel parking, emergency stops and reversing round corners yet. Is this normal or is he trying to string the lessons out?

he is stringing it out. he is working for you remember and if you want a whole lesson of reversing around corners, he should provide it. if not vote with your feet.

Oh my god; you're bing ripped off something rotton.

Does the guy need a new car, house or wife; cause your certainly paying for more than lessons.

I did 12 hours driving from never having sat in a car to doing my test (4 x 1 hour and 4 x 2 hours) and passed first time.

I'd get a second opinion form another driving school. Go do 1 lesson with them and see if they think your ready.

Sounds like he's trying to just get more money out of you. 19 lessons already sounds a bit excessive. I would start looking into finding another instructor!

How soon can you go for your road test? If you feel confident and comfortable. Why keep taking lessons? This guy is obviously just after the money. Try a different driving school.. preferrably one that is certified by your government.

You're paying the cost of the lessons.... why don't u tell him what u want to learn?? If he doesn't shift then get another instructor. Sounds like you can drive anyhow. May I wish you a lifetime of happy and safe motoring.

Yes it sounds like he is trying to rip you off. He should not be forcing you to try something you are not comfortable with, but to the contrary you sound more than ready to learn the other manoeuvres. Where in the country are you? Why don't you post another question asking for recommendations of driving instructors in your locality? (I got ripped off by BSM so don't go there)

Have a relative help you.
I think you should just go take your road test.
Those are peripheral skills that can be mastered later (except for the emergency braking).
Learning how to say oHHH sh_it and the proper hand singals to inconsiderate drivers should be on there too!

I reckon u should be doing that by now if u good. I passed my test with 26 lessons , thankfully I wasn't tested on parellel parking as I could never do it (and still struggle)

Go find another driving instructor and have him or her check out your driving
technique.

Not sure what you'd do in the UK if the second instructor disagreed with
the first. Presumably you could continue your instruction with him or her.

Ask him why he is not teaching you this. If you are confident there is no reason why he should not be teaching you these things. I suggest you go to a different instructor.
