I heard they will play with ping pong balls. They float so the turtle pushes it around and stuff. Just make sure turtle is not big enough to swallow the ball and choke.

I use small gold fish. This will give them a source of protein and a little variety to their diet. I also give my turtles some dusted crickets about once a week on top of a pellet diet speciffically for aquatic turtles...

Replicate the wild behaviors. In the wild, they...
- sleep in the water
- sleep in a basking site
- bask
- hunt for food
- occasionally look for territory or mates

Offer good basking sites, some places in the tank to explore, and some live food they can chase and 'play' with.

For the most part, however, turtles spend most of their day doing very, very little!

Ping pong ball in the water to chase around. Crickets and live fish to chase and eat. Turtle dock, which can be purchased at most pet shops for basking.

I have larger shiny rocks (ones that you can decorate with) mixed in with the regular aquarium rocks in my water turtle's tank. I noticed once that he dug up all of the larger rocks. So, when he's looking bored, I'll bury his larger rocks. He seems to enjoy digging them back up again. Otherwise, he just enjoys the company of the feeder fish that he wouldn't eat and have now grown too big for him to even eat anyway!

I know this sounds crazy, but I've had red sliders for a long time, and we go outside for "walks". No kidding - if you take them to the park or around the yard a few times a week, it's great exercise for them and they can explore a bit. Don't leave them unattended, though!

I use a cuttle bone. That's the calcium bone that hangs in bird cages. It's good for them and it floats so while they're trying to take a bite....it bobbles in the water.

Enrich their environment.
