Don't you think monkeys should be able to speak rather than budgies, parrots etc?

They have no vocal chords. Speech requires the use of mouth motions in conjunction with constricting of the lungs and forcing air through the vocal chords to develop sound . Without the vocal chords all Apes can grunt or squeal, but not vocalize words.

If humans grew up around others that couldnt speak but only make noises, our vocal chords would not develop as well. I think its the same thing with monkeys. With those other animals, they just repeat. They dont grasp language where they can form their own sentences. They just mimick. Id guess, if any animal was able to learn to speak our language, maybe a monkey. But maybe they dont have the right equipment to do so either.But they communicate well with sign language last I heard.

they can speak, just because we can't understand them don't mean they can't speak and also they can learn sign-language and i bet u they can learn it better than us. als monkeys and apes have a better family life than us, the only fighting hey do it who is gonna lead them and to me that's better than the messed up system we have.

Although monkeys and the great apes are our closest living relatives, they havn't evolved the ability to speak yet, due to their genes. But maybe in a few million years, unless we don't make them extinct

They can only pronounce vowels, which makes the human language impossible for them.

Yes they do speak, is just not in human's way. Partially, because their vocal brains are yet developed like humans'.
