Because Israel is the only stable democratic nation in the Gulf region. It is also the only hedge against Islamic Fundamentalist jihadists.

The Israelis took worthless, barren land and turned their nation into an economic powerhouse in the Middle East, not from oil, but from commerce.

Many of their neighbors are jealous over the success of the Israelis, so the land Israel now holds has become important. It didn't used to be, simply because it was a bit of a wasteland.

This conflict is not so much about religion as it is about jealousy over the success the Israelis have built.

If the jihadists ever realize their dreams of destroying Israel, you can look for that land to return to a wasteland again in the hands of religious extremists. It would destroy any buffer the free world has in that area.

If Israel falls, so do the oilfields of the Middle East. That is why some of the more moderate states (Jordan, Saudi Arabia, UAE) are willing to make peace with Israel and don't (as nations) support the jihadists.

For the safety and security of the oilfields and the world ... we must support Israel.

its not that its really important to our national security... in the sense that if israel were not there, we wouldnt be stable.

Its nice to have an ally in the region, for the most part, and the US and UK were the main proponents of creating israel in the mid 40's, so we sort of have a responsibility to protect them.

also the US is a christian nation and many of our leaders feel that our "brothers of the book" the jews should be able to have a place of their own, namely in THEIR holy land. After all, the Muslims have their Mecca, why cant the Jews come back to their most holy place?

Anyhoo... defending israel actually puts our national security in more jeapardy simply because it makes so many terrorists hate us and target us.

Israel is not important for US. The point is that the Israeli lobby in the US is bribing and corrupting most US diplomats to make them not only biased to Israel, but also to give its interest top priority over US interests. This US bias is what caused 9/11. Did the CNN ever tell u something like this or is it brainwashing u?! I hope not because it is so bad to know only one half of the truth.

For a while, Israel was the only democracy & ally in the region. And it is our staunchest ally. Over the years, some of the surrounding countries have become moderates (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon absent Hezbollah), giving us hope that someday peace will be the norm.

As "Bill" would say...."the spin stops here". God is our (all) creator and the Jews - Israel are "his chosen people" which He also included "all" who believes in Him. The bible continues to tell the story of how it was, how it is, and in the end - how it's going to be. We, the United States.....bottom line is a humanitarian country. WE HELP THOSE (other countries)WHO TRULY SUFFER THE MOST! Simply, we are Gods people too...

Because they are the only true ally in a region of turmoil where we happen to get a large source of one of our strategic resources. And because they are a stable government and society despite their woes.
