OK I admit the ancients were clever people but what about some of those in the middle ages that did think the earth was flat.

I don't know why people have to mock questions like this.
The fact is, so many people believe what others tell them. Science has proved that the Earth is round, but I do believe in the belief of the texts, and the belief of the people that wrote them.
The people who wrote those ancient texts obviously believed in what they thought, just like many people believe in a God, or whatever...
But then, I only know the Earth is round because... actually... do I know? For a fact? Tested by myself?
Nobody knows for sure what the truth is about anything - taking for granted what is reality because of what other people tell them.
Yeah sure, we have a Moon and Sun and... we accept it... because?
We just do.
So yes, in a way, I believe what was written on those "ancient texts".
And, I suppose, so did the people of that time, until a new theory, or belief, came along.

Try searching for the Flat Earth Society was going strong not so long ago.

I read a story once that proposed that the universe changes to fit whatever is believed by the majority so Earth once was flat and at the centre of the solar system etc.

It is a myth that the ancients thought the Earth was flat.

The ancient Greeks knew it was a globe, Eratosthenes, Librarian of Alexandria, wrote a treatise On the Measurement of the Earth in which he gave a figure for the Earth's circumference of 250,000 stadia. Depending on how long a stadia actually was this is the equivalent of about 23,000 miles, creditably close to the true figure of 24,900 miles.

You're too vague with your question. Which ancient texts, and what are their contents. What subjects are revealed, what sciences, philosophies, etc. are discussed. Be more specific, if you're to expect a meaningful answer.
