If the chance is so low, then should I even keep getting on that exam table year after year?

Yes-- you should. Trust me, it gets easier and easier as the years go by. Just don't think about it when you get up there and spread your legs. And make conversation with your gyno. It helps to have something to think about besides the fact that you have someone poking around your funbox.

Seriously though, you could have abnormal cells... anything really... even if you are under 18 and not sexually active. If you are having sex, you could get HPV, clamydia, gonorrhea... you name it. It's just a decent habit to get into. :)

If you are sexually active, especially with multiple partners, you have a higher chance of contacting HPV virus, which is connected to abnormal cervcal cells, also smoking increases the chance of developing abnormal cells. If youare under 18 years old and aresexuallyactive, I would suggest having a pap smear and complete physical exam done by a gynecologist.

If you are sexually active, you could have abnormal pap smear, because you could have contracted HPV, so it's a good idea to get them. Even if the chances are very low of having an abnormal pap, why NOT get one? They are covered by insurance if you have it, and if not you can go to a free clinic, and wouldn't you like to know if something IS going on in there?
