If you are an American citizen chances are 25 to 1 that your ancestor was an illegal immigrant. Don't knock the Irish. They provide the brains. Don't knock the Cubans. They provide the brawn. Don't knock the Mexicans. They brought Tacos. Don't knock the Germans. They brought you the bomb. Don't ... knock! knock! who's there? Getta! .. Getta who? Getta .........

The problem is politicians are filibustering over stuff that won't make much difference whatever they do. WE CAN'T DEPORT 11 MILLION ILLEGALS. Many have been here for generations and their children and grandchildren are US citizens, entitled to all the rights and priveleges of other citizens. Throwing out the parents or grandparents seems a bit stupid.

What I suggest as a better solution is:

1) seal the border and stop the bleeding
2) enforce workplace compliance. When they raid a company, have the Social Security Administration and IRS with them. Assign each one an ID SSAN so they will pay social security taxes and income taxes. Put an electronic bracelet or whatever tracking device that cannot be removed. Photo, fingerprint, & DNA each one, and issue an ILLEGAL ALIEN TEMPORARY ID CARD.

YEP, this ain't a perfect solution, but deporting them all, IF WE COULD FIND THEM & ID THEM, doesn't seem like a good solution either.

This seems to be one of the questions of the day lately. Granted, many illegal immigrants tend to ..... neglect some laws. In florida, they have cuban/hatian refugees arriving practically every week but the whole "wet foot/dry foot law" gives them immunity. What about mexico? what stops them from comming over besides a couple miles of beat up and old gate? Now, however, lets look at it from this point of view: how many of us like eating fruit everyday or when its hot or just when we feel like it? We like having food at our ease while paying low prices don't we? Think of this, did you know that if we didn't have immigrants workign the fields, the price of a single apple would go to almost 3-4 times what it costs now? How about the building of houses and fixing of homes after damage? The majority of workers in MANY parts of the US are immigrant workers. If they werent there, the price and amount of time to complete the job would go up as well. Ask yourself this, are you willing to go out into the fields and pick fruit or tar a roof? We pay so we won't have to. We pay contractors which usually hire immigrants to do the work for us. For the sports fans, what if all the popular immigrants werent allowed to stay. Some, are immigrants that were brought over without paperwork and only did paperwork after setting foot on US soil. As for impeaching the president. Sorry to say, but he has not done anything that mandates impeachment. Granted, people don't agree with his policy all the time and sometimes he is a little rough around the collar. But he has done some good things. The question ends with this simple note, are you willing to do the work the immigrants do when they aren't around? What about those from european countries that come here on vacation but never leave? what about the african americans that state thay are from "mother africa"? Are you willing to do what they do to survive and make our lives a little easier?

If Bush legalizes illegal immigrants he should probably consider the illegal immigrants that do all the right things like paying taxes, not taking aid from the government etc. It's not right to dub all immigrants as being bad for the economy. There are many American's that don't follow the rules made by the government. There is always a black sheep in each family, but don't judge every one on that one sheep.

That's not happening but if it did you probably couldn't tell any difference. Its not like all the current money and time spent on keeping people out has been even slightly effective. If you don't believe me please visit southern Texas and California. There are more Mexicans than Americans and the majority don't speak English so I'm pretty sure they aren't legal.

If they really wanted to get rid of illegal immigrants it would be sooo easy. Just keep tabs on hospitals and welfare groups. Mexicans in particular are always going to the hospitals to have babies they won't pay for. Any unisured person should be checked for citizenship before the government foots the bill for them. Of course if Canada starts doing this to us we'll be in trouble cuz most of us in the US can't pay our medical bills and there is nothing to stop the insurance that we pay for from sticking us with the bill anyway.

Didn't realise there was a scale of "suckness".... is that on a scale of 1 to 10 perhaps? I thought things either "sucked" or they didn't "suck".

On a more serious level, you are of course right that allowing thousands of illegals to suddenly become "legals" just by virtue of being able to hide until a President comes along who's dumb enough to let them stay does seem like a pretty stupid thing to do.

But before you throw every illegal back across the border into Mexico or into the sea or wherever they came from just have a quick check around you...
That waitress who served you in the restaurant
The guy who cleans the streets
The person who served you your fries in MacDonalds
the hundreds of other little people doing badly-paid, dirty, nasty little jobs... how many of them are illegals? Before you throw them all out... just check that there are enough people willing and able to replace them...

Don't understand what Bush is thinking (just like the Dem's) It will cost in excess of 320 BILLION DOLLARS over 15-20 years remember they will sponsor family. People who say they will pay taxes that's a crock they don't know what they are talking about. Most will get rebates for low income, child care, plus they won't be able to afford insurance. Don't forget all the kids at $7,000 per year in most places for school.

It would be a good thing if he allowed the ones here already to be legalized,,
1 they are already here
2. they would be eligible to pay income and property taxes
3 they would be more inclined to get off the social services rolls, less welfare.
4 then close the borders and all otheres have to pay for the visa's and green cards

Illegal immigrants do manual labor jobs that most young americians think are demeaning and beneath them to do ..if we stop them whos gonna do these jobs?

If illegal immigration is legalized. then illegal immigration will become legal. The very meaning of legal in this context will then have been eroded. The first step of fallout from this, of course, will be that legal immigration will have no meaning. Then it will not be a far distant step that citizenship will have no meaning.

how bad? no sweat.. it's just normal.. since everyone in the "USA" is an illegal immigrant.. the right of the land should go to the true natives of america.. the native indians.. aside from them.. everyone's an immigrant.. and illegal.. the european settlers took what shouldn't be thiers.. in politically correct words.. they "conquered" it.. there's no such thing as legal or illegal.. people just draw that line so as to distinguish themselves.. =)
