Because they find it way easier to come up with their own more easily digestable version of reality rather than face the truth, because that would require them to rethink their own "moral" views or require them to have to look at both sides of the story instead of just looking at the one they feel most comfortable with. It appears that in spite of all our science and technology, ignorance and delusion appears to be on the rise, this is a very dangerous ocurrence, and could lead to some major fukups. It also appears that certain political viewpoints tend to be more corrupt with delusion than others. People better start waking the hell up or they will find the world will get so awful that even their delusional mindset cannot take away their suffering.

Most times, a persons reality is their perspective. What you view as reality, is influenced by the experiences of your life, your successes, failures, hurts, hopes, wants, needs...and on and on... So when speaking of reality, if your telling someone who is color blind that the color is green, well, their reality may see a different color. Not being belligerent, or oppositional...simple seeing things different than you or I might.

Because in all honesty reality sucks and people would much rather be disillusioned in their own happy little world. I'm aware of reality, but I choose to ignore it sometimes, because reality is very painful.

That depends on what you mean by reality. Some people think opinions are reality, they aren't. If you mean denying they are sick or something, then its just a coping mechanism, they will accept it when their mind is ready to handle it.

Because many find dreams, no matter how abstruse, easier to accept than reality.

because reality is to frightening for them, in worse case scenarios when reality is literally ripped right out from underneath someone mental breakdown can occur and cause all sorts of psychosis

They use it as an defense mechanism. If their Psyche cant handle what is going on they substitute it with something their mind can handle.
