I have to tell you with my first child my husband and I were in our thirties and thought we knew everything, from books of course. I had a book all ready to give an educated answer when my son ask the all important question "where do babies come from". Well he was about 3 or 4 and he ask, well after a lengthily explanation that I thought was age appropriate he looked at me like I was an idiot and said "Do they come from California or Arizona?". Lol. With my other two boys I was careful to find out just what they were asking me. We started really young telling them that when two people love each other and they are ready they decide to become parents. Then added details as they got older, taking a cue from their questions. I think the biggest mistake in this area parents make is waiting to drop it all in one big "sex talk", when most of the time the children had heard so many wild stories from their friends already. As for what age was I, my mother was one of those 70's women who didn't talk about things like that and I was lucky to get a short talk about periods. Wow thank goodness times have changed.

My mom didnt have a sex talk with me. She just told me not to do it until I was married. haha That didnt work.I got pregnant at 18.My daughter is 6 and we have age appropriate conversations now. I tell her she has plenty of time for boys and try to build her confidence now so she wont feel she has to have a boyfriend or have sex at an early age later. I dont think there is just one talk. I think its about open communication at an appropriate level from an early age.

I will have the Sex Talk with my children are 9 since that's when they will probably start Sex Ed in school and that's when most girls start their periods and boys start knowing what Wet Dreams are.

I never had the talk. My schools had a sex ed. class every couple of years. You learn more from tv and friends anyway. Some parents are too scared to give you ALL the details.
