1) if you mean the Hard drive... displayed in "My Computer" as C:\
Then try uninstalling any un-necessary programmes via:
START > SETTINGS > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs

2) Go to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp
Empty everything out there, as sometimes it gets a bit full (computer is supposed to automatically delete the temporary files in there, but "forgets").... seen this folder get over 200MB of undeleted temporary files in here before I eventually spotted it.
Also try emptying the RECYCLE bin on the Desktop

3) Check the size of the folder:
C:\Windows\Temporary Internet files
Sometimes the Internet Explorer cache (this folder) gets a corrupted database....... my computers an absolute sod for doing this..... end up with twice the amount of data it's supposed to store in there, and misplaces files that you can't delete because they don't show.

Best fix I've found when this has happened (TWICE!), is to use the CACHE CLEANER that comes with "ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite" from http://www.zonelabs.com
Previously regained 4 - 6GB of Hard drive space doing this.

3) Go to: START > Run > MSconfig
go to the tab "startup", untick unecessary files loading at start-up (e.g. "Microsoft Office", etc).

4) Go to:
Start > Settings > Control Panel > System
go to the tab "Performance"..... click on the button that says "Virtual Memory"....... make sure it has "Let Windows manage my Virtual Memory Settings".
Virtual Memory is where the computer uses a portion of the hard drive as extra memory when trying to run more things than the RAM memory can handle.

5) Go to http://www.pcpitstop.com and run some of their optimisation scans to trace the problem + any extra ones.

6) Run "Scandisk" + "Defragmenter" & also the Anti-Virus + Anti-Spyware scans in the "ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite" software I recommended earlier.

7) Give this software a whirl: http://www.tune-up.com/

8) If it's been bought second hand, and hasn't got any of your friends' own files on it yet (and they have the Windows '98 install disk)....... then just format the hard drive by sticking the CD in the drive, then restarting the computer.
Better still..... try upgrading to Windows XP, as I read on BBC News last week (or the week before) that Microsoft have ended all support for Windows 98/ME.

You say the memory is full. Do you mean the hard drive? If so she can go to that drive and identify the programs she does not want, than go to the control panel, select add / remove then the files are listed select the files she wants deleted and one by one remove them. Then do a defrag of the drive.

First the problem is that there are too many applications running to run out of memory. Go to start/run/msconfi/ and uncheck any program you are not going to be using.
SThe obvious answer is to add more RAM but this is treating the symtom and not the problem.

Are you saying that her hard drive is full with the other person's info? If so, she can go in and delete the folders and subdirectories and directories that she doesn't need.
If you are talking about ram, generally, you can add ram, but, it doesn't really get full..
