Gaming ---> AMD
Ripping, Burning -----> Intel
Intel wins over AMD in burning test by a small margin only. When it comes to gaming, Intel doesnt stand a chance against AMD.
OVERALL --->"" AMD IS THE BEST BET""
I would alwez go for AMD ----> Value for Money...and great performance .

in gaming amd athlon 64 wins big time but if your doing two task like ripping mp3 and playing intel wins because it is a dual processor.but most of the time your game play will suffer. the two processor works well in microsoft media center. btw intel is not a 64bit processor and already some games like far cry is now on 64 bit (its very pretty on 64 bit) and windows vista operating system in on the horizone so i think amd is more future proof.

GO WITH AMD's SOCKET 939 SEMPRON (COMING OUT SOON)....then u can upgrade later to a dual core need be...! Just make sure the motherboard will support the dual core proc. PLUS socket 939 is a tested (for years now) socket/platform and AMD's socket AM2 does not give u much more in the way of performance.
Either Sempron socket (754, 939, AM2) will enable (or already includes the 64 bit instruction set) a 64 bit upgrade.
The programs (games/various apps) are always years behind the hardware whether is be a 64 bit proc or a dual core proc. A Sempron (AMD's equivalent to the Intel Celeron) is all most people need and can get any real use or net gain from.
Motherboard choice ASUS...good rep and many choices (even budget dependant)..
Joe...

Of course AMD. Better speed, value for money.
It does not getting HOT (contrary to myth that it produces more heat). My both PC with AMD - works fine non-stop. I leave them powered on for 72 hours at a stretch. Touch wood, never faced any problem so far. It works perfectly for Video editing too.
Who ever is saying INTEL is better has never seen a AMD computer.

Bearing in mind that A.M.D. invented the dual core C.P.U. and also keep in mind that A.M.D. C.P.U.'s have ALL WAYS led the industry in Pipeline Depth And in Instruction sets Per Second. This is really a silly Question The white pages are on on the manufactures sites compare 4 yourself.

Intel's cooling mechanism is better compared to AMD . So if u r in a reasonably hot temperature zone or if u switch on ur system for long hours I would recomond u INTEL.
