It does bother me that the schools don't offer a good education period. As a recent immigrant and a mother of two I am horrified. I don't understand why the American school keeps children for 7 hours a day for 12 years and doesn't teach as much as the school in my home country where I had 4 to 6 hours a day in higher grades for 10 years. I do send my kids to school for socialization. All the academics I want them to know I have to teach myself.

It's nonsensical. I have about 9 years total of college education and have far more education than almost everybody I know. But the fact is we overeducate. WAY TOO many people go to college. We fund too many people going to college with student loans and then they major in crap like psychology and take jobs that pay $20,000 a year when they get out. In the meantime, you can't schedule in a damn plumber, who makes $50,000 a year, to get some needed work done because they're already working 60 hour weeks and can't keep up. I had to pay my own way through college. The student loan system is unfair. We should kill it off and do things a more reasonable way.

I don't know where you are, but I grew up in MA, and there was an abundance of vocational-technical high schools supported by the state.
By paying taxes into the local school system, we are INVESTING in the future in the hopes of greater returns.

Yes and no.

The United States ranks very low world wide in educating our children. Many high school students cannot read, write or do simple math. Until that is resolved, I don't think adding to the curriculum is a good idea.

High school is for general education. College is for real life and career education.

The best advice I ever got from a high school counselor was "GET A TRADE FIRST... THEN GET A PROFESSION"..and I think that was great advice... because when times get tough, you can always revert to your trade if you can't find a job in your profession.
