Since you've been to the doctor and he/she has already ruled out any serious or immediate threat to your health, I would like to suggest chiropractic care as a treatment option.

Chiropractic is founded in the belief that the Central Nervous System (the brain, spinal cord, and nerves) controls EVERY bodily function. When the spinal bones (called vertebrae) are misaligned, they can pinch the nerves that run out between them and cause pain, numbness/tingling, or any type of general malfunction to that nerve's corresponding body part. Herniated disks also place this kind of pressure on the nerves, which can be very painful. Chiropractic works to remove this nerve interference by restoring the spine back to its proper position.

Chiropractic care is a safe, non-invasive healthcare option that doesn't involve the use of drugs that could potentially have unwanted side effects. Pain medication only masks the symptom of pain but does nothing to correct the cause of the problem.

If you do decide to see a chiropractor, ask family and friends for recommendations, visit a few offices, and choose the doctor that you are most comfortable with. I can't guarantee this as a definite cure, but chiropractic does have tremendous success in helping people with back pain. Best of luck to you!

Hi,

I have had lower back pain most of my life. Here are some things I have tried and help the most.

Bend over and let your arms hang like an elephant trunk. Stay that way going lower only as the muscles in your back loosen.

Every morning and night you should put your arms out and turn you upper body around as far as you can and hold it there for a count of 5. Then turn the other direction and hold for count of 5.
Do this at least 5 times.

What these exercises do is reteach your brain what the limits are of your muscle movement. Seems after a while the brain forgets where the limits are and causes the muscles to cramp.

Good luck,

Bob

You and about 1/5 of older americans share this problem. The best thing you can do is have a strong core for support. The core is made up of 29 muscles from the upper leg to the lower chest. Many people think the core is just the Abs, but working on this complete area will help with your lower back.

pain killers are useless. exercise is the cure. lie down on the ground face down & hands stretched in front. lift one leg slowly to the maximum extent possible. then lift the next leg. thirdly lift both the legs together. do this two times a day - morning and evening.
donot lift heavy items like bucket full of water. check on your sitting position and the chair. the spinal chord has a natural S curve. this should not be distorted and made into C .
if all these does not work, just BEAR the pain. it will go away without your knowledge.

Cheap cures/Free Cures?

1) Swim only (takes pressure off the Ls)
2) Hang on to a chin up bar and gently rest feet on flloor to create a traction on your Ls - do this for 10-15mins a day.
3) take up yoga
4) sleep at a tilted 4-5degrees angle with head towards ground...less pressue on your spine....

u'd be ok in 6-8 months...gives your spine time to heal.

There isn't much else you can do on your own. But a good massage and heating pad, and a nice hot bath will work wonders for your back. I used to do that for my mother a lot, and it made a huge difference.
