I need to find a place I can get some advice on how not to feel guilty about taking a break from work. The problem is not taking the time off and relaxing, cos that's possible. It's the feeling guilty at doing so. How can someone stop feeling the need to work all the time? Is there a book that gives some advice? or a website? Or anybody managed to do it themselves?

Dad gave me some simple advice once. I was working about 70 hours per week and not spending much time with the family

He told me... "Son, you work to live not live to work"

I had to think about what he daid, but it made perfect sense. I did what I could at work and went home and didn't worry about what I didn't get done.

Why are you feeling guilty from something which you deserve and need. If you are playing truant then you can feel guilty, but not when you just take you time which is your break time. everyone needs respite and relaxation from stress of work. just dont overdo things and try to relax during your break time but once you have finished all your work.

try a web search, or a bookstore search on "workaholic". here's a good article, with a quiz you can take: http://www.quintcareers.com/workaholic.html

you might want to examine what impulse, or if maybe there's something in your background that drives this guilt. are you prone to feel guilty about other things, or is it just when you aren't working? good luck.

I take "mental health" days every so often. I love my job, but sometimes you just need that me time outside of the weekends.
