I'm talking about the movie Madagascar - the dog/cat like creatures called "the foosa." What are they supposed to be? As in what real animal?

I checked around a bit - it seems they are really called Foosa and are related to weesels.

i have herd they are hyenas, but they look like mountain lions to me. they are not Lemar's!
