because nearly everything you buy and everywhere you call is written/proposed in two different languages??
If we do this, what incentive is there for mexican immigrants (legal/nonlegal) to learn the language of this land as all other immigrants have had to do...
why does this country continue to and find new ways to cater to this group of people?

left brain, having instructions in french, spanish and english has been around for ever... but catering to a group of people (my fathers parents immigrated and they had to learn, altho his dad already spoke 5 languages) and printing another language on the front of labels, making me listen to 1 other specific language choice on every call i make is just wrong in a single language country... my mother visited Miami about 5 years ago and she said she couldnt find a single anyone at the plane terminals that spoke english... another tourist finally helped her...what is that about... and my sister in law said there was a petition in Miami regarding which language there was going to be the primary language, spanish or english (she lives in florida)... that should not be going on here... blacks, native americans, all of nationalities had to learn english here... now we are making it easy for one group to not have to learn it...we cater to them

Great question!!! If you live in USA learn the language or go home. I'm curious is everything in Mexico written in English too? I have my doubts don't you. If the reason is it's sold in other countries, then why are all the signs in the isles and by the cash registers etc. in Spanish also.

First of all, it's an international world. Products from all over the globe come to the US. We are a consumer driven society. Capitalism. For such a concerned "American" you ought to be a little more savvy in the ways of America. Or aren't YOU doing your homework?
Second, "this group"? I hope you're going to be very happy in your insular little world with no variety and diversity. Is it really that big of an inconvenience to you? I do believe that English is the first language on these labels. You don't have to scan past other languages to get to where you want to be, for the most part.
Do I believe that new/old/legal/illegal immigrants would be better equipped to communicate if they learned English? Yes, I do. But in the mean time, shouldn't they be able to keep their kids safe from toxic substances by reading a simple warning label on a can of hair spray, for God's sake? Get over it.

Haven't been outside of the US have you? Although I strongly agree that if people come here to LIVE they should learn the language of this country, it is also well established throughout the globe that you put something in the other languages of the tourists that come to that country. Other countries have things written in their language and in English so we can read it when we go there.
Also if something says "warning" in a language you can't read it could be dangerous for you or others.

I guess America is trying to make them comfortable. Personally, I feel like if you live here you should learn the primary language, English. The same as if I were to move to France I should learn French. I have seen that the government is saying that they have to learn English in order to gain citizenship. I don't know how far that'll go though. I doesn't make me angry, it does make me wonder though. It also seems to me like certain immigrants are getting treated better than others.

Actually since Mexico and Spain had control over parts of the pre-united states after the battle there was a treaty that stated Spanish would also be used. I think it's the "Hidalgo Treaty Act" but, I can't reall if that is exactly the correct name.
It's in history books, just not regular school text books- convenient that they left that bit out.... So the government is simply upholding it end of the treaty althoughh it is not always done.
Research it yourself if you don't believe me...

It is NOT there for the immigrants, it's there because the product is sold in other countries, not just in the USA.
Since more items are sold all over the world, products in other countries have different languages on them, too, including English.

I wish I knew, we have a government that's afraid to death to offend anyone. You're right, if we do this marking everything in Spanish and forcing schools to have bilingual teachers it takes away the incentive to learn English.

ITS all for the mighty dollar, companies put the both languages on their products here in the US to get the Mexicans to buy the product. the US is so full of them now, all states have them. so companies know this and are making sure they can make money off them. and no it doesn't make me mad anymore what can you do about it ? nothing .
