Not the Celtic nonsense, I want drums. So far, all I've been able to find are whiny, untalented so-called singers who wasted time and money on a recording studio. I want true rock with pagan lyrics. Anyone have a recommendation?

Drums, you say? I hear ya. I find that most of my good pagan music finds were not bought from places touting the music as pagan, per se. Good music will advertise itself as music first, and pagan later.

The Cruxshadows, while lacking in percussion, do have a fantastic violinist and driving beats care of synth. They're Christian, but their lyrics are not. They tend to do songs regarding Egyptian and Greek mythology.

Faith and the Muse is also good, but given what you've said, I think you'd adore their latest album "the Burning Season", but I'd avoid their more ambient stuff from earlier. They're a duo made up of a punk and a goth- a guy from Christian Death, and a woman from the Madhouse. They tend towards Celtic in subject matter, but that's not how they sound. The drums on Burning Season are simple, but solid. You can try them out more easily than most bands, too. The song "Sredni Vashtar" is on the compilation Metropolis 2003, and they have free downloads on their website each month.

Then there's the band Nightwish. They blew me away the first time I heard them. I turned on the metal show on our college radio station, and sat in stunned silence after they played a Nightwish tune, while the next piece of cookie monster vocal crap came on.Think Lacuna Coil, add some extra Wagnerian effects, and turn up the hardness. It's operatic metal, with pagan themes (hinting previously, but getting more overt of late). Lamentably, I have discovered that they're short one lead singer. Few bands survive this, and to lose SUCH a singer. . .

While I don't actually like them that much, it sounds like the album "October Rust" from Type O Negative might suit you. The album is pagan themed, and the songs have titles like "Green Man" and "Be My Druidess".

If you're into synth/industrial type music, there's the band Qntal. They exist under another name doing authentic medieval music. as Qntal, they do medieval music with modern instruments, and especially on their remix album (which i ordinarily avoid for the repetitive factor but this is GOOOD) they tend in the direction of driving and danceable. Even though they use a drum machine, even my dad who is a professional drummer thought it sounded great.

Failing any of this, you could subscribe to Newitch. They do music reviews and interview pagan musicians often- and often they're musicians that don't suck.

you tube has some truly solid video clips of Norwegian song. there is also a Finnish band referred to as Tenhi, they do no longer something in English. yet they're very solid, somewhat melancholy and darkish. there is new age stuff, type of cliche yet some is solid-you've were given solid consequences searching for a range of of kinds of Northern eu human beings song. The words Pagan and Asatru cover an extremely huge area of the inhabitants. I pay interest to stuff from Mongolia, Ukraine, Tuva, Turkey, Lapland, Russia, Finland. i do not options different languages, some human beings do not choose something in languages except English. no longer to be obscure, besides the undeniable fact that it is puzzling to settle on or refer song to everybody with no bit extra data about opportunities.

I don't know about rock, but if you're willing to go more extreme, I highly reccomend looking into pagan black metal or folk metal.

Look into Skyforger or Graveland
