You are looking at the situation from the right angle, even though in a slightly simplistic way.
The current US administration did most likely not plan the Israeli attack on Lebanon. Such complete over-reaction is more the sort of thing fanatic orthodox Jews come up with.
But it might help Bush and his cronies anyway, since he is now already mentioning Syria again, which had absolutely nothing to do with the conflict (and neither had the Lebanese government).
It is quite possible that Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld might use the current development as an excuse to attack or invade Syria, which they wanted to do already for the past three years.
After Bush entered the White House in January 2001, being not properly elected and only pushed in by the backdoor with a one-vote majority (5:4) in the Supreme Court, he was a lame duck right from the start. He even lost his majority in the Senate when one of the Republican Senators left the party, and by 10 September he had not achieved a single thing.
All this changed the next day, and with his version of the Pearl Harbor effect he could happily proceed to start World War-III, a plan the "Project for the new American century" and right-wing fundamentalist "Christians" had for quite some time. They actually believe literally in the words of the Bible and are working hard to create the environment and circumstances thay they believe is necessary for "Armageddon" and Jesus' "second coming". Total war and destruction in the "Holy Land" is part of that scenario. So you are quite right that the people who control the USA at present must be rubbing their hands in joy.

I'm not sure what color the sky is in your world, but nobody has established anything about the average republican enjoying war. In fact, you're completely off your rocker if you think anyone really is happy about what's going on over there. Try not putting on the ultra left wing blinders and open your mind.

War is not the dream of any rational polical party's ideology. War is, however; sometimes a necessary evil to resolve conflicts. As a war veteran myself, I do not relish the idea of fighting and killing others. I do see the need for it at times when rational diplomacy cannot resolve the issues. For example, when you have a society that teaches their children that the only acceptable form of negotiation with those that do not agree with them is to kill them no questions asked and to even commit suicide in the process, how do you suppose that we find diplomatic solutions with them?

Wow... I wasn't certain that such ignorance and biased or warped thoughts and ideals existed.
Thanks!
Israel is NOT at 'war' against Lebanon. Israel is fighting local terrorists who are engrained into the local population of Lebanon, and, who have rained 2000+ missiles upon innocent children, parents, in their homes, all over Israel.
Such weapons are provided by Iran and Syria, both of whom would benefit from some topographical changes using tactical nukes.
"Get your facts straight!" Idiot!

Not really . If the democraps were in power , i.e., Billy (I like interns and cigars) Clinton there would have been a rash of 9/11's.
Thankfully President Bush makes decisions, right or wrong. At least he makes decisions.

"IT has already been established that carnage , war, and bloodshed is formal entertainment for the average republican."
Where and by who?
Saying that all republicans are in favor of war is like saying that all democrates favor child molestation and statutory rape ala' Barney Franks
