It was a big surprise, though I found out later that the ex had talked it out with others, including the girl he was dating and cheated on me with. loser.
But if this is something you plan on doing, do talk it out...sometimes things get clearer when they are verbalized instead of bonking around in your head. Good too if the couple can talk it out too, with a mediator if need be.

Yes it may be good to have someone listen so you can vent while you're going through this!

No - I didn't want them to be involved. I did it all on my own. I told them afterwards and they were supportive of my decision.
