Gee rocket scientist when fleeing a storm coming from the ocean do you take a ship into the ocean or a bus inland? Oh I forgot the buses were sitting in the parking lot waiting to get flooded out.
People are responsible for their own actions. The war in Lebanon developed quickly with little warning as wars often do; Katrina's victims had notice and chose to ignore it and stay home instead of evacuate. Blame the people not the government - its time for people to be responsible for their own actions and depend less on their government (that goes for the Americans in Lebanon too).

Katrina was a hurricane, they had limited time to evacuate. Another thing, a hurricane is a major ocean storm, why would you even want to be on a cruise ship during one?
There is a war going on in Lebanon, something we can prepare for. That is why we got our people out of there.

The US federal government was responsible for evacuation of Americans from Lebanon so it went quickly. The local government was responsible for evacuation of katrina.... the federal government can't get involved until local government asks for their help.... the local government screwed up big time in New Orleans. Yet again they vote the same guy back into office.... well I hope they enjoy their "chocolate" city.

Because the power to evacuate people out of the way of Hurricanes is the responsibility of the state government, not the Federal government. With wars in other countries, the people who chose to go there should take care of themselves.

Cruise ships were leased and at the docks in New Orleans.
Buffett lunch, breakfasts, dinners all were prepaid! The people of New Orleans all decided to go rob Houstin, Austin, Baton Rouge, etc.!
Again, someone (in this case, you!) assumes and prejudices the question!
Science invents 'Idiot proof' solutions/options, but, the idiots are popping up in ever faster, and in greator numbers, than could possibly be addressed! You might be the confirmation of the data set!

I agree with most of you except....I think the people who were evacuated would've had to pay to be evacuated why on earth would you go to that area on vacation? or to go to school? I thought most of the world came here to go to school or am i mistaken? Just like Katrina people should be dependent on themselves. The govt shouldn't have to watch over you because your dumb, you put yourself in a bad situation your on your own or don't listen when told to evacuate immediately . And we also shouldn't have to pay because a city and state failed to put their own plan into action instead they ran to baton rouge to save their own *** just to blame someone else afterwords. The congress breaking over media hype about the promissory notes was the weakest thing i have seen yet .

?????????????? Um lets see Katrina victims knew about the hurrican and the smart ones got out before it came. Most of these victims, victimized themselves by staying when they were told to get out. The Americans in Lebonon didn't have that kind of advanced warning. But they are leaving when they are told to so they arn't victims of themselves.
How can you even compare the two?
Are you really this narrow minded?
Hate Bush at all cost's.
Get a life people, he is a good president.
Quit believing the lies the media tells you.
Would you really rather have a government that appeses instead of defends.?
Would you rather live in a country that gives our businesses away? Example Clinton's north american traid aggrement that caused my sep-dad to loose his job to mexico.
Would you rather live in a country that gives millitary secrets to who ever asks? Example Clinton giving classified missle tech to china.

1. you are wrong , they reacted very quickly for katrina victoms , 2. i wouldn't even consider the so called victoms of katrina victoms . There was plenty of warning to get out , my friend was in new orleans and came to stay with me due to all the warning that a hurricane was going to hit 3 days before it did . And then all these people have to waste the time of resuers and gov. money to rescue them , they should have just left them on the rooftops for being ignorant . You might say they had no way to get out , if you do you are wrong , there was plenty of buses and people helping people get out .

because of jurisdiction reasons, if there is a state emergency it is the states responsibility (like a hurricane)..the state must first relinquish responsibility to the feds in order for the feds to react...this was the biggest reason why help failed...the states inability to make a decision.
as for evacuation of its citizens abroad, this is a very common training procedure the military practises...so its very easy to execute an evacuation abroad

If there is a hurricane, the last place you would want to be is on a cruise ship in the ocean.
