It is a symptom of deep vein thrombosis causing restricted blood supply. It could be a dangerous situation if the bood clot breaks off and goes to the heart. Or, it could be something like a bakers cyst behind the knee which may afect blood flow when the knee is bent or there is external pressure (as from sitting) that pinches the blood supply. Hope fully I did not scare you, but that's the risk of asking medical questions in a forum like this eh? Anyway, don't panic. Go to see your doctor and he will send you for an ultrasound to see what's going on.

This could be any number of things from muscular or ligament strain to a blocked artery. Is it accompanied by pain? Specifically local pain might indicate it was an injury of some sort, but otherwise, the possibilities are endless.
Does this swelling also involve numbness? In that instance, impaired blood flow is a good bet, which can be potentially disastrous.
As the previous answers have said, your best bet is to check with your doctor, and not quit asking why until he comes up with a reasonable answer and efficacious treatment. And if he doesn't, seek another opinion.
And do it soon.

Hi there. As your swelling occurs when you sit down, I can only assume that you have circulatory problems. Do your fingertips tingle or do your toes tingle? Do you sometimes lose sensitivity in your feet or your fingers? If you notice a reddening on the inside of your thighs, or you feel a burning sensation on the inside of your thighs, it means you could be at risk of a deep-vein thrombosis. Take an aspirin, which will help your blood to thin, and get straight down to your nearest doctor or hospital. It also helps if you sit on a chair and put your feet up against the wall. You are doubly at risk if you take the pill. This could be nothing, but it is best not to risk it. As this is a chat room and not a medical surgery, I strongly advise you to take action.

it´s either edema, gout or arthritis. Selfmedication is not advicable. Please contact an orthopedid doctor or sport doctor.
It could also be a deep vein varicousis, thats mean deep vein are wider than normal, volume of blood in the area is increased, starts to coagulate thru blood flow the coagulated blood will be distributed all over your body. This is very dangerous coz capillaries, they are hair fine blood vessels will be blocked. The capillaries are mostly found in the extremeties, but is less dangerous. At the highest risk are capilliaries in the eyes that could lead to blindness, and in the brain that leads to apoflex. Poor bloodflow leads to hypooxigination of the organism which cause the organs to function abnormally. Hypooxigination of the braincells could cause coma or even death.
DON´T WAIT, SEE IMMEDIATELY YOUR PHYSICIAN.
Get well soon.

Is the discomfort in the front or lower back of your knee. ive suffered from knee issues for some years now (purely 18) =/ and that i'm getting discomfort in the lower back of my knee, as nicely as swelling in the lower back. I definitely have a bakers cyst. the main suitable area of do is see your well-known practitioner and notice what they think of.

Whatever it is, consult a doctor immediately. Could cause blood clotting leading to a stroke and severe immobilization, loss of coordination, loss of speech, and worse.

You might want to ask a doctor that. I don't think anyone here can seriously answer you (unless they're a doctor, and even then, they need to physically examine your leg first)
