I don't know about the laws in TN, but I would think 10 or 11 is a good age. This is mostly depending on the attitude of the child, if they are afraid to be left alone, don't do it! I would start with small time away like 20 min at a neighbors' house (meaning leaving the child home) tell her where you are going and the number where she can reach you if needed, then next step might be you going to the store, taking your cell phone with the same instructions. If you have a reliable neighbor perhaps telling your child to contact your neighbor if help is needed (of course asking your neighbor first if that is ok that your child contact her if you are gone) My mom left me "in charge" of my sisters (one was an infant) while she would run to the grocery store when I was 11.

It depends on several things. One how responsible is the child and two how long are they going to be alone and is it day or night.
In Missouri it is 12 unless the child shows mature responsibilty. That is if someone asked themquestions would they know what to do. My oldest was 10 and stayed home for and hur after school by herself but she knew all the things to do and had plenty of people to call on if needed and I also spoke to our close neighbors and told them what was going on so they kept an eye on things. My 9 year old will be lucky to be left honme alone before she is 18 due to her lack of responsibility. You know your child and you know whether or not they can handle it but also ask them some kids are afraid to be alone.

My eight year old cousin was allowed to stay at home for an hour, when his family went to church. He was sleeping, but his mom told him they where leaving. He was still sleeping when the family returned. It really depends on the child if it could be considered endagerment.

Depends on their maturity. Maybe 12 for just an hour or so ~ and NOT watching another child. You know your kid. Can you trust him to not turn on the oven or not answer the door? If you can't, then you can't.

Well just for a LITTLE while, i say about 11 years old and the older he/she gets, it's okay to let him/her stay alone at home.
