I have heard and have actually seen this done but hanging zip lock baggies half full of water in your door ways or where ever is "supposed" to repell flies. I don't understand it and haven't tried it. You could try fly strips too.

I've heard Basil plants keep flies away. Close all light source, open a window where the light is coming in they will head for the light then encourage them out.

Flies have a short life-span. Swat the ones you have in the house and be sure that you don't have holes in screens or leave doors open. They'll go away.
