My comp takes like 10 minutes to start up after login after i reformatted it due to virus infection. And when I'm playing a song and opening a software, the song will either stop a few miliseconds or becomes draggy. Please help :D !

Thanks alot for the answers! I appreciate it all. Now the problem is, I've tried everything before. Typing msconfig, unticking unnecessary stuff. ad-ware. AVG anti-virus, tune up utilities 2006. I'm using XP, AMD 64 Processor 2800+ 1.84Ghz, 40gb hdisk, 512mb ram . So it seems like there's nothing much i can do except installing new OS?

you probably have a lot of extraneous processes and programs running. shut off whatever you don't need be careful when playing around with processes though cuz some are important. ctrl+alt+del and if that doesn't work im sorry and dont sue.

I worked on a computer with a similar problem. Turn it on and it took forever. So what happened is after doing trouble shooting for 3 HRS SCREAM MY HEAD OFF! well any way it was the c:drive was not in its place so the hard drive had to work over time just to get to the active partition which has the Master Boot Record needed to boot the GUI (graphical user interface) well the best answer I give you is this because its such a complex issue. Don't know if you have XP like this one guy I know. So finely I did a windows install after all.

I think that your computer is still infected by the virus. May be you need an anti-virus and an anti-spyware on your computer to check its state. Something else, the problem my be due to hardware limits for example a limited Ram, a slow CPU or a problem with the HD. Make sure also that the version of the operating system that you are using is OK

Type msconfig after the thing boots up.

And then, in services tab choose, hide microsoft services and then untick the ones that you don;t need to start at startup. And in the startup tab, untick the ones you don't want to start at the bootup. That will start the com with better timing.

If having more trouble, type services.msc in run and then disable some unwanted processes that are not being not used by you frequently.

just format your c:\ drive and install the new operating system. and ha dont install any program in c:\ drive even Ms-Office. try to install everything in other drive. and try to increase your virtual memory by clicking right click on MyComputer Icon. and before formating just remove the motherboard battrey and keep it off for 10 min after that put the battery agin and install the os. this will remove virus for bottup also and memory. best of luck

You can try ad-Aware and/or spyBot search an destroy. These are free programs tha remove most of your problem Spywares. I prefer Weroot "Spy Sweeper" . It costs $20 fora year but it will remove most of the spyware if not all. If the problem still persists after Spy Sweeper then they have superb support that will get rid of everything.

Computer Slow

Download and then run startup.exe at:

http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml......

Can't live without it and windows...

Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.

Other things to try:

1 - Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 - Defrag
3 - Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)

ALL ELSE FAILS - RELOAD YOUR O/S (WINDOWS) AND THEN REINSTALL ALL OTHER PROGRAMS YOU NEED/USE!
