Okay, so i own a Dell PC, with windows XP. Everytime i press the "ON' button, the computer starts to beep, and it sounds as if there is a motor or fan, running pretty fast. The screen is also blank. I think the sequencing for the beeps is 1-3-2, which would indicate a memory failure. also, the diagnostics at the back of the PC are: A-orange, B-orange, C-green, D-green. Which i think also indicates a memory failrure. Now that i know that, what do i do? Do i have to buy new memory? or adjust the current memory cards?

Also, in case it matters, this is not the first time that this has happened. It has happened several other times, but each of those times, it must have "repaired itself" or something because it worked fine the next morning. But these startup problems are becoming frquent and VERY annoying! can anyone please suggest something?

Thanx

It sounds like your memory has gone bad. You can either go and buy new memory at your local computer store. Or if it is under warrenty call up Dell. Memory is one of the more flakey things on a computer.

If you had added any additional memory to the computer it is also possible that you can just pull out the memory you have added and try again or pull out the original memory and have just the memory you added. Do this to test which memory is bad and which is good.

Good on you that you diagnosed the problem. I did not check you but the sounds and lights are the key. Old mother boards use to have tunes they would play when problems were occurring. No matter what that other expert thinks he has proven himself on other questions, he just did not know as much as he thought! OK it has happened before, just before it happened the first time did you make any physical changes assuming that it did not just come out of the box. (new memory, installing some other slot filler, or just moving the beige box) it would seem to me that it needs to be a hardware problem lose wire lose ram or worst case cold solder joint (so that the connection is variable). It does not work so you can not brake it worse. open the box looking to see if the ram is properly seated and all wires are completely connected. You could also switch the ram.

I don't see how you're getting memory failure out of this but just open the computer and make sure your CPU, RAM and Video card are properly installed.
